Just as it says...

I am in the UK at the moment. I am on nights right now in fact. As an engineer we only have to fix things when they break. Right now we have not nothing broken.

Impossible! The entire country is broken! Please fix it, the engineers would make a better job of it than the lawyers.

It might sound all fun but it can get boring. You do earn your money though when your on deployment. Plus if you join up now you might get a medal next year for the queens dimond jubilee.

Im making an educated guess that thats officer or NCO. At the moment its NCO because i was a retard at A-Level BIG time, but the bloke said if you come across as the officer type and actually mention at every interview stage that you have the points to be an Officer, you just dont have them in two subjects (only history) then they could make an exception, it doesnt really bother me either way but im definitely going to keep mentioning it to those who are essentially in charge of where i go.

I think im Officer potential to be honest, infact im sure of it, but the Guideline to entry gets technical and ive just missed out. The Careers Advisor just told me to mention it at every stage that you wanted to be an Officer, and if they see you fit the bill they might make the exception, even if they dont and you do your basic army training he said they might spot the officer potential and tell you to go off to sandhurst.

Soooooooo, at the moment it is Enlisted.

good educated guess :-)

The pay, and potential lifestyle is better if you are commissioned, unless from what I have heard if you go into the old school regiments where you might not break even in the Mess until you are a Major at least.

whichever way you end up going you will make friends that you will be closer to than any member of your family. It is not so much what the people are like it is that you will know that you can trust (most) of the guys and girls around you with your life. They will also know that hopefully they will be able to trust you with theirs. If you want to know more about what the Army is like then have a look on Arrse.co.uk

I have done 15 years and it has passed in a heart beat. I could see some people that I have not seen in 10 years and it will be like no time has passed with the banter.

Back to drinks:
To say it's all male bragging, socializing or whatever and that nobody really likes the alcohol is just silly. I for one rarely drink more than one drink, be it a stout, a Bordeaux or any fancy shot or cocktail. I just don't, even in social settings - I genuinely dislike being drunk, but I do like certain drinks A LOT for how they taste.

Do you not ask yourself why you rarely drink more the one drink?

And i still dont believe it. Im sure you drink what your drinking for one reason ro another that is not its taste.

Well the reason I prefer ale/bitter to lager, and gin to vodka and stout to cider is because I think they taste better, and I enjoy drinking them. There you go. :drink:

Its flavor has been described as "like black licorice-flavored Listerine."

ew and ew.

Ah, c'mon! Be a bit more open-minded and give it a try. Just imagine Jaegermeister without the sweetness.:cloud9:

Oh, if I have an opportunity, I'll give it a shot. But I'm not going out of my way.

And I actually tend to agree with fraf here - at least his main point. If you removed the effects of alcohol on human physiology, would people really still like it? No doubt yes, now that they've been conditioned so. But would a person raised outside of an alcohol-philic society like the taste of any alcoholic beverage? I doubt it. Alcohol is poisonous to us, after all. It's only natural that our bodies are programmed to NOT like it. Then again, alcohol is also poisonous to harmful microbes, which people took advantage of to preserve beverages. So maybe humans could have developed a penchant for it over the millenia...

Either way, it would be an interesting study.

Why? I usually have ony one or two. Nothing wriong with that at all. It is possible to drink without having to get drunk.

Maybe you do not like alcohol, fair enough, but some folks do. Life would be pretty boring if we all liked and disliked the same things.

Ask yourself this, i was absolutely "raped" in that topic about smoking after saying i occasionally do, and all people would say were

What possibly could you get from smoking?

Or i dont see why people smoke when they are absolutely vile

Now im saying other then socialising and getting drunk( slash using alcohol for its effects on the body), who can honestly say they enjoy the taste?

Maybe theyre saying it to remain intact with their peers, after all going out and not drinking purely through not liking it is a laughable offence, especially in the younger club scenes.

Then there are all the people that "enjoy" alchohols taste, that cant bring themselves to down this amber nectar without spewing their guts all over the place.

Do you see my point here, i drink alchohol, i drink it a lot when im out, i either drink it in abundance or i dont drink it at all, as the only thing i want from it is to be social and to get merry. Im saying anyone that truly thinks they drink it for anything other then those two reasons (merry includes having a nice glass of whiskey after work, because that is being used subconciously or not to intoxicate yourself) then your fooling yourself.

The only alcohol people may "truly" (its odd i use the word truly when infact its also not truly) like are the ones with hardly any alchohol in them, like alcopops, or ones heavily masked with more dominant flavours, like apple sourz.

I can! I like the taste of various alcoholic beverages and through the 27 years and 9 months that I have been stuck on this planet, I have never been drunk in my life and have no wish to get into such a state. I have been merry, or tipsy but I have never felt the need to keep up with my peers.

Maybe it’s because I like to judge someone on something more substantial and meaningful than their drinking capacity, and think that if someone is going to judge me solely on how drunk I can get or how much I choose to drink on a night out then they are not worth bothering with.

Do you see my point here, i drink alchohol, i drink it a lot when im out, i either drink it in abundance or i dont drink it at all, as the only thing i want from it is to be social and to get merry.

So you binge drink? Either a drought or a flood. Think about it……

Well, as usual I had a bottle of beer with my tea. I don’t, have never and don’t intend to drink to get deliberately drunk. I stop these days after 2 or a well spaced 3. A few years ago I would have a good amount get a bit tipsy then stop, have something to eat and stick to non-alcoholic drinks. I know this avoids all the fun of having a fight, throwing up after eating a kebab (quite possibly seagull meat in these in my neck of the woods), being arrested and having a hang-over.

I like Whisky which I have been known to have it as it comes out the bottle, as it should be.

To be honest I wouldn’t drink something I don’t like. For example, I never drink wine, probably through fear due to ignorance and cost. Cocktails don’t interest me either, nor to kiddie drinks (alcopops). Beer is my tipple and that’s what I stick to for one reason - I like the stuff.

Maybe I’m just odd or very sensible or both.
