Ok, so even though their official name is Renault Lotus, I'm not supposed to refer to them as Lotus in any capacity? They have nothing to do with Renault either, so what should I call them then?

It's a matter of standards. In a discussion, we all have to agree on a name for each team. Regardless of the technicalities, the official name of the team is Renault Lotus. I never said Renault Lotus was actually involved with Lotus cars - I only referred to their official name.

Sheesh.

Oh, and if McLaren was called "McLaren Vodafone" I would probably refer to them as a "Vodafone" team if the discussion was currently centering around Vodafone.

No their official named is Lotus Renault GP, not Renault Lotus. We all refer to them as Renault or Renault GP because they've just been Renault, plain and simple, for the last few years as far as I know. Team Lotus is the Lotus team, not Lotus Renault GP. You can refer to Lotus Renault GP in the capacity of Lotus Renault GP, because they are not Lotus...Team Lotus is Lotus, so if you're referring to just 'Lotus' it's going to be Team Lotus that you're referring to, not Lotus Renault GP.

I'm not trying to sound rude or anything, in case I am. However, you definitely might piss off some of the old geezers on this forum if you refer to Team Lotus as the "other" lotus :hehe:
