It does matter if its SAS or not, i thouht thats the sole thing we were discussing, either way the official and unofficial M.O.D, SAS policy is to not discuss special forces, infact unless it REALLY cannot be hidden, they list KIA SAS members by their Original Unit ie Paras, or Royal Engineers, they dont discuss the SAS full stop, theyve hardly officially admitted it exists. So how the sun knows better, or the bbc, beats me.

It was a diplomatic mission anyway tht is confirmed. If the SAS got caught this time then they got caught.

Well, yeah initially the discussion started about the SAS how it got there I'll never know, but to me I don't think it matters who, its more the what.

Like, what are we discussing now then? cause im completely at sea. Hamiltons better then Alonso dont you think? :D

Bah, what do you think the odds are of Alonso coming higher in the championship this season then Lewis?

We might as well get this thread locked, I don't think anyones denying there are concerns with McLaren, and its not too long until the first race and we actually get to SEE what the deal is.

What's the point in locking it? People can just stop replying if it's run it's course.

Scarb's is Tweeting there is a possible controversy brewing about the McLaren exhaust.

Fair bit to read, but as I understand it there are two areas in question:-
1) Rules say there can only be 2 exits for exhausts. McLaren are using an Octpus box designed to spread the exhaust gases in more directions (see sketch I found below)
2) exhaust has to be made from a defined set of materials. McLaren have made the octopus box from Pyrosic which is not one of the defined/allowable materials.

Obviously McLaren wouldn't have done this without having a different view, perhaps they fell the octopus box is part of the chassis rather than the exhaust? Also, most teams tend to invite Charlie Whiting to look something new over, before proceeding too far. Mc definitely did that with the F-Duct last year.

I'm sure Ferrari will question it, but I wonder if Red Bull/Horner will have anything to say seeming as they spent a lot of last year whinging about other teams complaining about their front wing?

I hear that by China, McLaren will upgrade from this "octupus" to a "calamari" :hehe:

If McLaren are fast then this will be questioned. If they are struggling then I doubt anyone will pay attention. Kinda like the moving front wings, had Red Bull been 4th-5th fastest then no one would have cared.

Yep its only ever going to get reported if they get 1-2 by 2seconds.

if there 5th no one will care.

Haha, a reasonable point sir

Regarding the Octopus Box:

Sounds clever in the same way as the Double Decker Diffuser on the Brawn, where the second deck was actually the Rear Crash Structure. Assuming, that is, it actually works as intended. It sounds like it gets around the rules in a similar manner though, so all that remains is to find out if it's much of a help.

Red Bull don't have much of a leg to stand on if they try and complain...The flexing front wings are also only considered legal because of a loophole (namely that the rules inexplicably define the lack of compliance exclusively in terms of the test, rather than in terms of the behaviour - much like the loophole in the original rules about minimum ride height and later the rule regarding fuel tanks that got BAR in hot water in 2005).
