Runny eggs on the face of Lotus with this out in the open. Certainly limits the caliber of driver that will give them a chance... may even rule out Massa if there was any intent there.

Raikkonen comes across as honest and so it must be true. This certainly diminishes Lotus' public image and I expect Massa and The Hulk will be looking elsewhere now.

Lets face it if your employer did not always pay you, you would find another job.

Indeed.

Whilst this might be something that puts drivers off, I don't think that it would necessarily deter The Hulk; his choices at present seem to be a team with dire financial circumstances or a team with less-than-ideal financial circumstances. Given that the latter is also more likely to produce a car capable of fighting for podiums and wins, I reckon it will still be a viable option. Poor guy, though. His career has definitely not gone the way that it should have so far, given his talent.

Of course, there's always that slim possibility that McLaren drop Pérez in favour of him.

Poor guy. He's like whatever the opposite of the Midas touch is... :hehe: I'm starting to think that's the reason Ferrari didn't hire him.

So much for the altruistic money isn't everything arguments.
ESPNF1 Kimi Raikkonen has revealed that his decision to leave Lotus for Ferrari at the end of the year was motivated by money...

First of all, I believe I personally said money isn't everything, which is different!
Secondly, I doubt you would find anyone in F1 who drives "purely" for the racing!
Having said that, why shouldn't it be a motivating "factor" amongst others?

You've come round to see it my way. But I have to disagree. I'm sure 3/4 of the guys on the grid (at least) would drive the car fir free. You're right Sagi, this isn't a black and white issue. Just mentioned it because you said he didn't just move fir the money issue. Kimi clearly reads this forum.

Now, now... are you running for some kind of political office?? Because, the "discussion" was about Kimi's agent not turning his appeal into money, to which I replied money wasn't everything.
No one said anything about Kimi not wanting a salary!!

By the way, which 75% do you think would be driving for free?

I race my car on Sundays for only the sheer pleasure of it. It costs money in upkeep you know! I think most people that love to drive, including F1 drivers, would do it for free, if it meant they had to have a day job to make a living. So 75% I was being conservative. But then again it would be much more about the racing instead of the winning. :cloud9:

 By jove, I think you've got it!! I hereby declare that all F1 salaries be deposited to my personal bank account, effective today.
Ever after, F1 drivers will race their hearts out for free and enjoy it because they have nothing to lose!!
