Red Bull rear end... is it me or is that a huge hole above the light that is part of the diffuser? If so i haven't seen anything like that on the other cars....

I believe the hole in the middle is for the exhaust. They used it last year too.

Rear ends, I have noticed Red Bull & Toro Rosso are virtually identical even though Toro Rosso is meant to be on its own.... I think they're lying.. but heres some pictures of different ways the teams have gone about designing their rear ends:

Sorry it was so long.. but its clear all teams have very unique designs.

Rear wing design is surprisingly unique too. The most notable are Renault, Williams & Sauber.

Also the position of exhausts are unique alone with any cooling ducts. I think Toro Rosso & Red Bull's holes in the middle are to cool the engine, letting air escape. McLaren have a slit in their fin which was previously overlooked too.

Cooling exhaust? Because I'm pretty sure it's not the engine exhaust as they are between the suspension on the side pods I believe.

Looking at it it seems that it could be a pressure release port for the excluded and unnecessary intake air thus releasing and expiditing the unused intake volume over the rear wing for a slight increase in aerodynamic downforce ??

They will beat Virgin.

Such a large field is a good thing but also a bad thing if it lowers the standard of the field. Are we going to see a return of the old days when the back markers are lapped?

Thought I would post this clear image of the McLaren Diffuser as you can see I have highlighted what I believe to to be different parts of the diffuser.

Image

Blue is first deck
Red is Second deck
Green is a huge third deck
Purple is what i believe to be a fourth deck that interacts with the rear wing mounting.

Great pics
It seems this yr the engineers were able to be more creative... the way I see it, i really like Ferrari and Renault 's rear ends.
And Sauber's is pretty interesting as well. The Mclaren car as a whole has flowing lines, the front wing, the rear, everything looks curvy...... whereas most of the other cars are quite 'angular'. We'll see who does best, but so far looks like the engineers were really busy

FM's rear is still my favorite: not too curvy, not too angular - just the right tight package :cloud9:

cool pics, kind of gives you an idea of the placement with the rear view mirrors.. i wonder if the side pod mounted ones put more stress on the driving having to turn his head more to see them? but at the potential gain of getting a better point of view?
