It's not visually great no, but from the teams point of view its the best thing.

It might even work out for the fans in the long run if Alonso gets together a real title push.

If Alonso wins by less than 7 points then the whole argument will start again. Just abolish the team orders rule and everyone will be on a level playing field. Well, except for the No. 2 drivers, that is...

Yes, but an instruction to save fuel when one team mate is coming up behind faster could be interpreted as a "coded message", which is the entire problem with the rule. If Ferrari preformed this more subtly, they would've skipped away scott free.

But they didn't which says that Ferrari doesn't give a crap about anyone but the best interests of Ferrari, I think it was AKR that posted, and she WOULD KNOW that... the Enzo Ferrari philosophy was, If Ferrari wins, the cars win, if Ferrari loses, the drivers lose.

The fact that they did it so ham fisted say either that Ferrari just could give two sheets about what the fans think or that Massa and Smedley were so incensed by the order that they wanted to make it as obvious as they possibly could, both in the radio message and in the execution of a slowdown.

Personally I think it was a bit of both.

It's probably the second one they've been emphasising the notion that no one is bigger than the team which suggests they're telling Smedley and Massa they need to get over it.

Although tbh I think the first one is correct in general, but not Ferrari's reasoning for making it obvious/not obvious the reason Ferrari would've tried to hide it is to escape punishment.

If Alonso wins by less than 7 points it justifies the decision, some will moan but Massa is also a Ferrari driver, and Ferrari will do all they can to win the WDC (2nd to the WCC). Massa wasn't really in contention for the WDC, so we weren't robbed of a battle for that in the team orders.

I really don't agree with that statement! It wasn't like Alonso was so far ahead that Massa could not win the championship (he would have been closer if he was allowed to challenge for the win). Lewis Hamilton has shown that a string of strong results can suddenly put a driver at the top to the pile. There are 200 points till available until the end of the season, it's too soon to say that Alonso is the Ferrari #1; unless of course it was in Alonso's contract, giving Massa the number "7" was a red herring by Ferrari I believe to mask that Alonso is clear #1 at Ferrari, much like Schumacher and Raikkonen before him!

Justifies yes, but it won't stop the torrent of abuse.

OK, we are in the middle of the next race; let's put this discussion to bed until we hear the outcome of the WMSC meeting whenever that happens.

 Nice try there bub.

I had the same observation with the ton of new members, we LOVE red meat.

We all know that sweet FA is going to happen to Ferrari, the WMSC will say that Ferrari have been punished already and no future action needs to be taken!

A lot of the best moments in F1 have been battles between team mates what people are saying when they say abolish the rule and let team orders stand is that they would rather not see team mates battle each other at all.

To me that makes no sense at all maybe they should stop overtaking all together and teams can just pick names out of a hat before the race to determine who wins it would be just as dull and stupid.

If they remove the rule than drop the 2nd driver from each team and go for 24 teams, i would rather see that than teams favouring 1 driver over the other just to win the WDC.

There's no need to make exaggerations and distortions.

I think it was too soon for Ferrari to clearly favour Alonso, the main problem was Ferrari were far enough behind in the WDC that they needed to start getting ruthless quicker. But its a shade of grey at which point Ferrari needed to favour Alonso over Massa.

That's not what I'm saying. The rule is not enforceable and a bad rule should be dropped.

Lmao, great choice of music by the BBC.

"if I had to do the same again, I would my friend Fernando".

I really hope Massa gets ahead of Alonso again.

Yeah that was cool!! Now come on Massa, beat him!!

Massa's not been able to keep up with Alonso for most races, and he couldn't today. When Hamilton retired Massa had the chance to catch up to Alonso, might even have been able to get ahead of Vettel.
#209902
Massa was on a typical Sunday drive. I think I drive harder and show more aggression on the highway in my car than Massa showed the entire race.

Wasn't massa going faster than Alonso at the end?
