small point, has petrov actualy tested for an F1 team?

No, I believe not.

Thats why I don't get why Grosjean got pushed aside.

EDIT: oh wait, thats why. Petrov brings loads of Russian money to the table. Now Bernie's gonna have a race in Russia. Woop hee

That and, well, Petrov looked better than Grosjean in GP2 last year, to be honest. Grosjean seemed very..complacent. That said, I think Grosjean would make a a good F1 driver with a little testing. Testing is important and of all the rookies that drove in F1 last year, the only one to have any pre-season testing other than Buemi who started from race one was, in fact, Kobayashi.

Renault trying to claim the decision was based on talent, not money.

:hehe: Yeah sure, like they didn't notice the £10 million he was bringing along, and that Heidfeld was looking to be actually paid.

Petrov has been nowhere until last year. He raced in Russia winning Formula 1600 Russia (doubt that was a competitive series) Then he finished 3rd in Euroseries 3000. (extremely unknown series that I don't even think gets TV coverage) Then he ended up in GP2. (a lot of low rated GP2 drivers come from euroseries 3000, because many of the teams runs cars in euro3000 and GP2) His 4th year in Gp2 and he was lucky enough to end up in the best team. Fair play, he did drive very well, but lost to Hulkenburg.

Compare that to Grosjean who was F3 euroseries champion (probably thee most competitive junior category) Then straight onto becoming GP2 asia series champion. 4th in GP2 2008, and then GP2 2009, he only just lost the championship lead to Hulkenburg before joining Renault in F1.

I don't doubt that Petrov can preform. But Renault shouldn't kid themselves.

All of that is extremely sad. :(

but f1 is completely different isn't it. some drivers win all sorts of juniour series but never cut it in f1. i think it is unfair on grosjean purely because of the circumstances that he entered the team.

petrov may suprise a few people, but then again he might be an absolute joke. who knows?

It would be nice if you could add:
1x United States
:) But I don't know if that will happen.

There has been limited success by the USA in F1 but Mario Andretti is an exception.

Lets say the United States hasn't had massive success in F1.

Mexico has the Rodriguez Bros.
Argentina: Fangio
Brazil: Senna, Fittipaldi, Massa
Canada: Villeneuve

Canada has had no more success in F1 than the United States, we both have one, one time world champion. I think Mario's success is all to often forgotten.

There's Phil Hill as well, although his Championship was the one "nobody wanted to win" as Count Von Tripps was set to become a postholomous Champion.

Dan Gurney was a top American driver back in the 60's who was one of the few drivers that Jim Clark feared.
