Interesting article with Hamilton the top rated sportsman in the world. I wonder though if things would be different now as the timing of that was when Hamilton was on a high leading the wdc and with four straight wins and poles just before Monaco. It's been a Rosberg show since then.

Hamilton certainly personally benefits from such a high rating, I also wonder if Merc benefits from Hamilton's brand in the actual selling of their cars verses a Rosberg led team? I am sure that Merc have their own studies and are crunching the numbers as things progress. Lots of racing still to come .for Hamilton to turn his fortunes around.

Still not one post in "support" of anything... “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” :yoda:

Does he mean strategical to halt Hamilton, or just because he knew he couldn't get past Bottas so was saving fuel and tyres and not stressing the car?

And it is about qualifying, I don't care what thejudge says. Wolff said it's about qualifying, and it's allowing whoever's in front to dictate terms, which at present is Rosberg.

Strategically to halt Hamilton is how I read it.

Of course qualifying well is essential I've never said different to that. Yes Rosberg's been in front and able to dictate for three races so far, but he wouldn't have been in Monaco without his error, and he wouldn't have stayed there in Canada without cutting a chicane and Lewis DNFing . Yes he dictated in Austria.

It appears our very own Roth vehemently disagrees with Niki Lauda.
ESPNF1 Niki Lauda insists Lewis Hamilton is "absolutely perfect in his head" despite the 29-point deficit he has to make up to Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in the drivers' championship.

A costly mistake during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix meant Hamilton had to start from ninth, leaving him with an uphill battle to challenge eventual winner Rosberg. It came one race after his retirement in Canada allowed Rosberg to gain 18 valuable points in the title fight but Lauda says he has not seen any signs that the recent shift in momentum is having a negative impact on Hamilton.

"I don't need to coach him at all," Lauda said to the suggestion Hamilton was mentally fragile. "I can tell you - I've known him a long time - he's absolutely perfect in his head, and that's it. There's nothing in this respect at all. Even after that qualifying mistake he said 'it was my mistake' and made up for it right away in the race.

"Lewis will fight back, there is no worry on my side at all, he is not in any way disturbed. He knows he has to fight hard now and beat his own team-mate to make up for the points. Wait for Silverstone, I guarantee you he will be there. It's his home race and home fans."

Mercedes non-executive chairman Lauda played a key role in poaching Hamilton from McLaren in the latter stages of 2012 and he thinks the recent races will have only made the Englishman stronger.

"It is [a big gap], because the Montreal race was a disaster for him but he will keep on fighting, don't worry. He will be more motivated now going to Silverstone after this result and with the points difference. I really look forward to a good race between them at Silverstone. I just hope that nobody else comes in between! We need to keep pushing the team forward again."

This ofcourse is the crux of the issue. Anyone saying his mistake in quali shows his mind 'has changed' or even that 'he has cracked' or is 'obviously fragile' convinietely ignores how he not only drove like a winner but like champion. So the one mistake he made he bounces back from with a vengeance, the otrher race he dnf'ed and the other Nico 'made a mistake'

yet Lewis has mentally collapsed apparently

I remember the race Nico royally screwed up his quali and started the race badly, very lucky to survive a mistake strewn early race, and then took nearly the whole race to finish about 30 seconds behind IIRC

yet for some Lewis' mistake in quali negates the brilliant start of the race (the point of greatest risk, when many would be extra cautious and pussylike) and the brilliant drive, and confirms what they always knew

Was that China? If it was I do remember Rosberg making a bit of a meal of coming back through the field considering the power advantage the Merc had at the time.

Is Lewis winning the Lewis V Nico marketing battle?

That is an unequivocal "YES", according to Repucom's latest surveys, where Hamilton
appears more marketable than Rosberg, who is a no-show in three different markets:

p.s. I also posted these lists in the "Richest Drivers" thread; hopefully, they answer your question, eh?

But apart from Massa they are the world champions on the grid. It does beg the question who did they ask? Where did they do their research?
#406219
It's just math RC. A lot of Brazilian fans like Massa. Three segments, global, domestic and UK. Sagi is just over the moon that Lewis didn't top a single one of them. :hehe:

Brava!! Questioning surveys/statistics is important!! Since data can and will be manipulated to suit; but,
as I shared in the other thread, this seems to be a fairly reputable site which doesn't have an agenda.
Here's a link to their "Who We Work For" page:

And a lot of Mexicans like Perez. Every other marketability list I've seen has had Perez high and Massa not mentioned. So I still question the validity of the research.

Why is it so at odds with all the other recently published lists like Forbes.
#406225
The main tangible metrics correlating to marketability these days is ofcourse social media followers etc
And Lewis has a lot more followers than most other drivers just as Mercedes has more followers than Ferrari

This could be to do with screen time with a winning Merc increasingly becoming the image of F1 most seen and recognised.

Whoa...did someone say social media followers?

So why is that repricom site putting Lewis 5 th on one list below Massa, Button, Alonso and Vettel? Do they not bother with the massive data available on social media? I'm just curious how they arrive at such a result.
#406228
Just like anyone can conduct a survey or a poll, different polls and lists are out there. Even the teams could conduct their own poll that surprisingly shows stats in their favour.

With the marketability lists out of all the different ones, there will be the one that is the de facto benchmark and the one most used and referenced. The benchmark sportspro rateability list is the one newspapers etc quote, along with Forbes This says Lewis is number 1. The Repco one I have never seen referenced by any papers or media, in fact the quote above is the first I have heard of it. Maybe the worlds media are not using google search

It could be like Hugh Crapmores top ten driver list vs Mar Hughes top ten driver list, I reckon only one is referenced by Autosport, the telegraph, Eurosport etc etc
