No offence to all alonso fans but can anyone explain why alonso was allowed to take his 1st place podium this week when he never got his car back to parc ferme ( he stopped in front of the grandstands and left the car there ) , in light of the fact that when Lewis did similar a few races back to save the correct amount of fuel for testing , he got a penalty !!! The rules quite clearly state a car must make it all the way back to parc ferme at the completion of the race !!!!!!!

Hi Slim
The rule only applies in qualifying, the rule for race day is that the car has to have enough fuel left in it for a sample to be taken
it doesn't have to make it back parc ferme

Yes thay brought in this rule a couple of years ago when Lewis did it in quali. He hasnt done it in a race yet but when he does expect it to suddenly apply to races as well, retrospective to the race in question.

No, Lewis isn't victimised, the rule was clear, there have been unfairer penalties applied to drivers, just Lewis gets the most angst when stuff doesn't go his way on here.

Pls let me know what was more unfair than Lewis getting pushed back to last in Spain after qualifying on pole, and stopping a car which had enough fuel for testing?

Pls let me know what was more unfair than Lewis getting stripped off the WIN at Spa 2008 for doing something which pretty much everyone else had, and has been doing up till today?

:)

It wasn't unfair as it was a clear technical regulation with which the punishment was set at an exclusion from the event in question (which was also known and been applied beforehand).

You remember Schumacher's penalty in Monaco post race 2010? For overtaking Alonso as the safety car pitted on the last lap but the rules stated the safety car wouldn't cross the start finish line on the last lap but marshells were waving green flags at the last corner.

Anyway, you need to show the penalties applied were harsh specifically because it was Lewis, that's the argument being made isn't it?

Yes, because I don't understand why he is being victimized.

Mind you, I wasn't even following him back in 2008 as it was a disastrous race for me as a fan as I was supporting Kimi all the way. But I was shocked he was given a penalty which lost him the win since I couldn't find any justification for it. I think a few pundits were also quoted as saying 'stewards made a meal out of that one'.

Yes, I remember Schumi's penalty which was later revoked and he kept his place. What's your point? :hehe:

I'm looking for some clarification regarding the rules around a grid place penalty.
Jean Eric Vergne has received a 10 place penalty from last weekend to be served at the British GP.
With Vergne consistently qualifying outside the top 18, he probably wont feel the full force of a 10 place penalty as much as a top ranking driver would.
He will be knocked back to 24, unless he breaks with tradition and poles better than 14.
Is there any rule surrounding a driver who doesn't get pushed back the full quota, can the remainder be used at the next meeting after that?
Thanks guys

No.

I think you'll find it does include races as well , lewis stopped his car after the race to make sure they had enough fuel for testing as he was told to from his team and he still got the penalty , I have every race this season recorded . So alonso should also have received a penalty .

Nope. Having a technical car problem following the chequered flag is not the same as not having enough fuel to complete an in lap during/after qualifying.

What race was this?

Technical issues don't count, also there are races such as Monaco that the custom is to park the car near the royal box... in 2009 Button completely forgot and parked at the opposite end of the circuit and had to run over to the royal box.

So as long as the car has enough fuel for testing and meets the weight/wear criteria it's good.

This was raised and answered earlier in the thread. The rules for the end of qualifying are different to the rules for the end of the race.

Which race was this? I've watched every single race and not seen this. It happened at the qualifying for the Spanish GP.

Yea, don't need to bring the car back to parc ferme on the race; only the fuel sample rule applies on the race. The rule/penalty only applies for Q. The idea behind it is that in Q you have a more controlled condition.

Lewis had this issue before in canada, when he pushed the car back after Q. There was no rule then, so no penalty. He's been the only to run out of fuel after Q... So yea, the penalty only applies to him. ;)
