Everyone in a head injury ward might believe that... :hehe:

Like i said elsewhere, Hamilton's fault today for not having the speed on his outlap, finger pointing won't work here :wavey:

There was plenty support. They were even throwing the slides from the pit board at him. If that's not a signal to drive faster I don't know what is! :hehe:

Whitmarsh defends McLaren showing

McLaren chief Martin Whitmarsh has defended his team's latest race performance on the track and in pit stops in Monaco on Sunday despite again losing ground.
Lewis Hamilton had appeared well placed to challenge for his first win of the season after qualifying third but a poor getaway at the lights set the tone for a disappointing race in which he was eventually passed through pit stops by first Fernando Alonso and then Sebastian Vettel.
McLaren have been dogged by problematic pit stops so far this season and again, despite stopping a lap earlier than his Spanish rival for fresh tyres, Hamilton was jumped convincingly by Alonso as Ferrari performed a stop that was measured at being 0.6 seconds faster.
Whitmarsh, however, insisted that what really made the difference was the pace Alonso was able to show once in clear air on his in lap, rather than anything McLaren did or didn't do in the pit lane.
"It wasn't the stop time. If you look at both times, Fernando did a very quick lap and that's how they got in front after Lewis stopped," he said.
"We were trying to get the tyres to last because in this race everyone was waiting for rain as you probably know so we were just trying to get the tyres to run as long as you could.
"When we couldn't get the tyres running longer, we had to stop. At that point Fernando was running quickly and able to get in front of us. A little bit frustrating, but that wasn't anything to do with the stop - it was to do with Fernando's pace."
On lap 46 Hamilton then found Sebastian Vettel re-emerge from his pit stop right ahead of him on the track, the German having run a considerably longer first stint than the top five cars on the soft tyres.
Hamilton was heard querying over the radio why he had not been informed that the Red Bull driver was likely to return to the track near to him - later suggesting in interviews that he could have gone faster in the proceeding laps if he had needed to - but Whitmarsh says it was difficult for McLaren to make much headway during the race considering they ran in a train of cars at the front for most of the 79 laps.
"Subsequently Sebastian did a good job on his first set of tyres, opened a gap, and we were trapped behind a lot of cars," he said.
"We went through one lap to go with four, five cars within three seconds so it was incredibly tight. If you got yourself in the wrong part of traffic you couldn't make any progress."
With the field proving so closely-matched Whitmarsh acknowledged that even the smallest details in pit stops and team communication carried more importance than ever, but again insisted that in the Alonso incident the Spaniard had simply proved faster on the track.
"Again, I think the stops were okay. It was, if you stopped and the car behind you can suddenly go quickly, which is what Fernando did, and he's been quicker than you on that lap than you are on your out-lap if he then stops he will be in front of you regardless of really how we're [done] on stop times," Whitmarsh added.
Replying to the suggestion that McLaren's pit stops remained too slow, Whitmarsh replied that "cars are never quick enough, stops are never short enough, in my experience", before adding that the unique nature of Monaco made it a difficult race to try and make progress.
"We weren't quite quick enough and it didn't quite go our way in the race," he argued.
"With one lap to go we were within three seconds of [the] race leader, but on this track if you've got a load of cars between you and the race leader it's very difficult to do anything about it."

I can't see any other team manager being 'satisfied' with a stop which was slower than their nearest rivals, and he neatly sidesteps the question of Lewis not being informed about Vettel rejoining near him. We clearly heard Massa being told by his engineer to "Push like crazy because of Vettel", I assumed this basic information would've been told to Lewis as well? Did they really not tell him this? He did have a 2 second gap to Alonso and if its true he could've gone faster and just not informed about Vettel....I really think this guy needs to look elsewhere for a drive instead of staying with these mutton heads.

It was once again a rubbish performance.sixth race in a row now.unbelievable!!!

He's right though,

If you pit and the guy who stays out goes faster on his in-lap than you do on your out lap (on new tyres versus worn tyres), that's your problem.

He doesn't say they didn't tell Lewis to try and push, but there was a train of cars, not that much time could be made up.

I'm not contesting him about the Alonso thing. I'm talking about a manager who is giving excuses instead of admitting that the team is not up to par at the moment in terms of pitstops and thinking on their feet.

Plus, he sidesteps the question...by talking some trash. Lewis had 2 seconds at least to make up to Alonso and in Monaco there's no 'aero influence' by the car in front. In other words Whitmarsh is saying "we didnt tell him because he couldn't have done anything anyway"? Massa was closer to Hamilton and he was told to push! :banghead:

Why pit lewis so late on the first stop? it was clear two laps sooner at least would have been better. And then the slow stops. he should have been third and can't afford for sloppiness to keep putting his main rivals ahead.

Every bloody race, its becoming unbearable and I'm not talking about McLaren Whitmarsh but this bloody forum!!
You Lewis fans are bloody unbelievable you really are a bunch of <- SNIP - >! This is a sport, sometimes you just have to f***ing accept another team does a better job than you. What right does McLaren have to be 6 tenths faster than Ferrari? Answer that? the guys are f***ing trying but whether their best is enough to beat the other teams is the bloody point of competition! Do you guys realise this is a sport you measure yourself against others, the fact there is a 1st 2nd 3rd etc etc is the means of measurement. Everyone doesn't f***ing come in fist place do they!??

f***ing over it! and this forum!!! :censored:

I honestly could inderstand once, maybe twice in a six race period where, as a Team Leader, you simply are not on full stroke based on your calls, strategy and general management which costs your team/drivers', positions and points. No one is perfect. But c'mon, Whitmarsh can't seem to get out of his own way. Just mark my words...here comes Canada, a circuit that Lewis "owns"...but just watch what happens. They will find some way to really mess up what should be a great opportunity. (I say "Lewis" because, at this point, Jenson is off in the weeds and I just don't expect much from him anymore...sorry.)

Monaco was another tell-tale sign of what's to come for this team. By the time they start to act right, it's too late...everything that was to play for is beyond their means. It will be a Ferrari/Red Bull shootout while the plot sickens back at Woking. As a hardcore fan of the team, it's just hard to watch the slow but steady implosion. :irked: It's like a very bad automobile accident...you don't want to look but it's hard to look away.

I'm just saying...

Don't you remember they were waiting for rain? Not just McLaren, but EVERY SINGLE TEAM thought the rain was coming.

And no, he shouldn't have been third. Alonso and Vettel were faster.
