Ke$ha has made a career doing basically the same thing.

And I'm sorry ZA, your example speaks to good music being irrespective of genre and I agree, but so is bad music so it's perfectly okay to laugh at some people's musical tastes. :hehe: In any case, it's good to see anyone trying out hobbies just because they enjoy it.

 read this tweet from Lewis.

Didn't think it was quite his style from what I've heard of his music and musical taste.

I bet there's a few Lewis bashers gnashing their teeth this morning :hehe:

How we previously were talking about driver and car as to which mattered most, well this song is 95% computer, 5% Lewis.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

So like most modern songs then?

Just as there are a few of his fans who really liked "his" voice? :P
((p.s. couldn't resist the opportunity to tease!! :D ))

I thought that voice was an ok voice. I didn't comment on the song because I didn't much like it and it wasn't Lewis' anyway it was Ana Lou's . I t didn't sound anything like the stuff Lewis generally likes. But if it had been something he wanted to do, no problem, his choice. As it turns out nothing about it was to do with Lewis

I wasn't referring to people on this forum incidentally when I said " I bet there's a few Lewis bashers gnashing there teeth this morning" I was meaning...out there....the ones who jump in on anything 'Lewis' and are negative. They'll have to content themselves with his dogs and his love life. How sad for them!

...How sad for them!

What's sad is that because people sit behind a computer screen, they seem to think that gives them carte blanche to act without regard for the next person.

And, yes, there is a positive side to this double-edged sword called technology, it is also a great way for shy people to feel more comfortable about joining in!!

Shy people are generally shy for a reason - like they have nothing useful to say, technology doesnt change that :hehe:

I don't think that is right. Just because someone is shy, does not mean that what they think is any less relevant to a cocky gob-shite who thinks they know a lot but knows nothing.

(I am not calling anyone either of those things)

I didnt say that, I said they might have nothing useful to say. For example a pupil might be shy because they dont have enough knowledge. When they have knowledge that gives confidence that replaces the shyness

Thats different to the rarer case of someone who is just always shy full stop, and technology wont change that

what helps those types are how encouraging, tolerant or non critical the other participants are, whether in a town hall or a technology based version

Well you know I'd hazard a guess that Adrian Newey might be a little shy, and I'd say Montezemelo isn't. Make of that what you will.

With kids the very brightest can be shy or confident, makes no difference. The shy ones need more work to help reach their potential. They won't speak out in a large group and won't push their views and ideas. The slightly less bright but confident can often surpass the shy very bright. I guess it depends ultimately on the career path they choose and their life experiences.

Actually, you "did" say that people who are shy have nothing useful to say!
Jabberwocky is right, just because someone is shy does NOT mean that they
are ignorant. One is NOT necessarily dependant upon the other!!

I have a VERY bright young lady in my class who is shy to the point of being
self-effacing!! She has a lot to contribute to class discussions; but, hesitates
to do so. I believe it's cultural, in her case. I go to her for comments on a
very regular basis, as she has so much to contribute.

Technology may not stop her from being shy; but, the anonymity of it can give
her the confidence she lacks, if she's online! I'm hoping I can give it to her in
reality.

How does that equate to 'shy people have nothing useful to say'

I said shy people have a reason, such as nothing to say as well as the more complex stuff - thats not down to technology, its down to society and how they perceive it

Jabberwocky is right, just because someone is shy does NOT mean that they

apart from nothing to say he is right there are other more complex reasons

theres another complex reason, how does technology help?

As her teacher you should be trying to get her to overcome the complex reasons instead of allowing technology to mask it

For all intents and purposes, I teach in a "one room school house" (except for the multiple grades);
so we don't have the type of technology that you're suggesting. However, I have overheard her talk
to her peers/friends in the class about going on line and chatting after school.

I do my best in the class by asking her direct questions, during class discussions and I have made her
the leader of her small group of peers, so that her leadership qualities can develop.

Anything else you can think of? :D

Hey you are the expert and it sounds like you are bang on it.

I was just pointing out that apart from the complex psychological reasons for shyness, there is simply 'being not ready to speak up'

technology doesnt change the root causes

Its too simplistic to just say shy people become less shy because of technology

First of all, it was a genuine question, without any hidden agenda! I try to understand the differences in people, as it always helps me in the classroom.

Secondly, I know a number of "big" personality-type people who are gregarious, by nature; but, who "suddenly" get quiet when the subject at hand, is not in their area of "expertise"!

I will apologize for not being clearer, as what I meant to say was that technology offers a "screen" from behind which shy people can temporarily overcome their timidity, in the hopes they can overcome it permanently.
