mclaren changed lewis' gearbox be he damaged it in that shunt.

they are allowed to change ratios but nothing else, not allowed to replace any parts only change the gear ratios. do be serious, could you really see them using the monaco ratios in turkey, everybody topping out half way down the straight.

think a lil .... I refuse to go look it up. I dont see the sense in changing ratios and not be penalised but changing the box gets one. I guess i may be wrong..... where is Bill or Chris if you need em ????

They can change the ratios ONCE before each grand prix

look at it this way if you qualified lower than you expected you can't then change the ratio to help you accerelate faster to gain places.

negative longbow.... this is what I found and I think it says gearboxes as well as same ratios for 4 races...... am i reading it right ??

a) Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for four consecutive Events in which his team competes. Should a driver use a replacement gearbox he will drop five places on the starting grid at that Event and an additional five places each time a further gearbox is used. Any replacement gearbox must be fitted with the same gear ratios that were declared under d) below and will only be required to complete the remainder of the Event in question. Any change to the gear ratios declared under d) below will incur a further five grid place penalty. In either case a new four
race sequence may start at the following Event.

Read what it says under D) (you havent posted that)

) At each Event seals may be broken once, under supervision and at any time prior to the second day
of practice, for the sole purpose of changing gear ratios and dog rings (excluding final drives or reduction gears). Competitors must inform the FIA technical delegate which ratios they intend to fit no later than two hours after the end of P2.
Gear ratios and dog rings (excluding final drives or reduction gears) may also be changed under supervision for others of identical specification at any time during an Event provided the FIA technical delegate is satisfied there is evident physical damage to the parts in question and that such changes are not being carried out on a systematic basis.
e) Other than under d) above, a replacement gearbox will also be deemed to have been used if any of the FIA seals are damaged or removed from the original gearbox after it has been used for the first time.

I says that will say they have to declare a ratio before the start of Q1

then if they replace it the ratios's must be kept the same as they have declared at the start of quali so they only reason they would have to change a gear box would be because its damaged

I think today's race is going to be pretty boring and processional.

I know some people are optimistic for overtaking, but there just won't be any. GP2 failed to make a single overtake all weekend, and those cars can follow nose to bumper. So really, those F1 cars won't be getting any overtaking chances whatsoever. This weekend will all be decided off the line and in the pits.

Kimi I hope can get off the line first for some excitement. But Button no doubt will have him during the first stops. But it'll be interesting to see if he can stay ahead of Barrichello. 2nd for Ferrari, now wouldn't that be a result. Massa will no doubt be 4th or 5th if he keeps his nose clean. The ferrari looks like the best car here, excluding Brawn. But fingers crossed for a podium.

Heikki, Nico, Vettel, Nakajima and Webber will no doubt will be fighting for positions. Personally I don't know who I want to come out best from that scrap. Williams, deserve some good points, but of course I want Kovy and Vettel to come out well from it. So whatever happens, happens this weekend.

Think your correct mate just hope Kimi can Jump brawn at the start, and see if Massa can do anything.

Hopfully Hekki can jump a few also.

Lewis not sure what he's gonn be able to do from the back hopfuly jump a few with KERs and then take them at the pits which isn't likely consideirng the ammout of fuel hes got.

only the KERs cars are gonna be able to do anything

well longbow ... maybe I am understanding it wrong but it still does not compute. anyway if mclaren changed gearbox for hammie for damage and/or ratios - he was 16th - even a 10 place penalty will put him p20. so all good... hope it helps him. one answer I really would like to have is whether they may change ratios between race weekends. I suppose nothing can stop it if all of them does it cos 5 place penalty wont work then. lol..... guess we will have to ask the fia to answer that one as they see it.

they dont need to change ratios though, they have already got them from the simulator and previous seasons. so any ratios will probably be almost perfect, and they will not change them throught the weekend, there is no point.

if they changed the ratio's they would be breaking the rules.

They can't change the ratios after they have annouced them to the FIA after P2

since the gear box is inspected by the FIA after the race and they have a ban hanging over them do you think they would?

I know they not allowed to change ratios over a race weekend. what I was on about was whether they may change ratios during the 4 race period when they may not change the box. like I said - will have to get the fia to clarify that one. I do understand that they may not rplace ratios without a penalty cos if they do the seals will have to be broken and that a penalty in itself. anyway enuff of this now. .. typing far too much today. need a beer to keep my hands busy.

hopefully will be a eventful race.

read the rules, they can change the ratios between races with the same box they HAVE To since monaco ratio's would not work in turkey.

I think there's a fair chance of Kimi jumping Button at the start. It would be very difficult for Kimi to stay ahead at the stops, but that's where the excitement will be.

Yeah tony it's a good strategy that you're suggesting! It's surely going to get Lewis the win!

You're reaching mate!

come now bud ... drop the attitude. wasn't refering to mclaren really .... tried to understand the rule as it applies to all the teams. . it still makes no sense as it stands but understand longbows reasoning. so dont worry - wasn't bashing poor hammie this time. in fact lets hope ......... nahhhh .. rather leave it for now.

I've come to terms with the fact that Hamilton's season is done. Let's just hope that MM can get it together for next year.

Well lewis hasn't yet..

If your saying that starting in Turkey, MM and the MP4-24 will be as competitive as the BGP 001 your dreaming--it'll never happen. I think there's a design flaw in the MP4-24. It's time to start. Let's have fun.
