Well, the war officially started 2 days earlier with the German invasion of Poland on September 1st.
So, yes, it's the only race during the war.

True, but the Allies declared war on Germany on September 3rd, just before the race was run.

A driver performed a manoeuvre more usually seen in gymnastics just before crossing the finish line.

What was the race and what was the manoeuvre?

1993 Italian Grand Prix - Christian Fittpaldi of Minardi did a back-flip when he made contact with his team-mate Martini's car, just before the start finish line. But he had enough momentum to continue skidding over the line and finish 8th.

Tried for cryptic but you saw through it.

Well done, Azza.

Ok, im bored so thought of something fun to occupy us all, can you identify the following races from my descriptions, I want year and circuit.

1. A Ferrari driven by Michael Schumacher breaks down on the parade lap.
2. Alesi crashes with a Sauber, he then retires from the sport.
3. Villeneuve takes to the grass to pass a suffering Hill to take victory on the final lap of the race.

1. Magny Cours 1996
2. Suzuka 2000
3. Budapest 1997

What do I win!

What about the race where Alonso had to pass the same car twice, went around the outside of Michael Schumacher at full speed, and Fisichella lost the race on the last lap?????

Er, the prize for reviving old threads that don't need reviving? Wasn't that he very first question in this thread? Or have I unwittingly stumbled into a time-warp?

Yeah, it was the very very first question on this thread.

October 2006. Five years ago. Around the time Fernando Alonso won his 2nd title with Renault.....

Maybe I didn't read the thread thoroughly enough. Has anyone named the race?
