Can someone explain to me why Alonso did not get penalized for not returning to the winners circle with his car...does that not constitute a penalty? I remember a few races back when a Maclaren did not have enough fuel to return , they were disqualified...what am I missing??

That's your first post??

Way to give a warm welcome. This is exactly what is wrong with this place.

I'm within my right to bring up forum ettiquette. It makes one look stupid just barging in the middle of a conversation sticking one two cents in without first entering the forum properly through the intro forum with a little introduction. That behaviour deserves no welcome. But I have no obligation to explain that or myself to you or anyone. What do you care? Did it have anything to do with you? I'm what's wrong with this place? Do you want me to leave so the place can be right again? You and I had no problem and you just made one. That was extremely insulting, what you just said, and you're talking about what's wrong with the place? That's hypocracy.

FYI sometimes people don't know about the introductory section. Myself, I had no idea and made a couple of posts in the main forum before someone politely directed me to the introduction forum where I did mine.

I was part of the forums for a YEAR before I went into the introductions section. IF Id had a response to my first few posts like madbrad gave, I doubt I would of stuck around for long.

it's within your right to post your opinion, but it's certainly not within your right to call someone stupid for something that you're clearly in the minority with your opinion about. So wake up, the world has many types of people and you're not going to like all of them and all of them are not going to like you, so let's leave it at that and think more before we post insensitive opinionated stuff shall we?

You're quite right that forum etiquette is important to keep things in general order, but as with everything in life there are polite ways of expressing yourself, and impolite ways of expressing yourself on the same point. There wasn't any need to adopt the tone in your initial post that you did, in my own personal opinion it wasn't very nice and completely needless. But that's just my opinion, not looking for an argument so that's all I'll say about it.

Edit: WB, I was typing this at the same time as you were typing your response obviously, I wasn't looking to prolong an issue that I think should be closed following your response.

Looking at the Hamilton/Maldonado incident again, I just feel it was a racing incident. You've got a guy that's a historically ham-fisted aggressor in Maldonado, and he was pushing to make a pass, that with some talent or finesse could have been successfully done since there was no way for Lewis to defend.

Then you have Hamilton that was going to defend his position to the utmost of his ability, while it looked like he was driving with ice skates instead of tires. In my opinion it was a recipe for disaster that a calm headed engineer or strategist at McLaren should have been on the radio about and say to Hamilton in a cool stiff upper lip Brit accent, okay Lewis, we're not going to be able to defend against Maldonado as well, let's make sure we get the fourth place points.

Water under the bridge.

At McLaren, though, they have other things to worry about after yet another pit-stop problem for Hamilton.

This time it was a failure of one of the new Ferrari-style angled jacks the team designed as part of a wholesale restructure of their pit-stop operation following problems in Malaysia, China and Bahrain earlier this year.

It lost Hamilton a place to Alonso when the leaders pitted during the mid-race safety-car period - and that of course would have meant he was leading following the retirements of Vettel and Lotus's Grosjean.

Given the tyre problems Hamilton found himself in during the closing laps, it seems unlikely that he would have been able to hold off Alonso for the victory, but it would have meant he was clear of Pastor Maldonado, and therefore the incident that took him out of the race, for which Hamilton was blameless.

He also tries to calculate the points lost due to Hamilton's problems and some poor strategy for Alonso, I didn't look that much at the Hamilton ones, but I think he's overegged the cost of poor strategy for Alonso, he fails to point out that Ferrari have had more risk on their strategy than some other teams as they didn't have the innate pace in their car.

There was no tone. It was supposed to be a joke. This isn't the thread to talk about it but it seems you can't twitch without getting flamed these days. Add that to the fact that about half the members are so blatanly and shamelessly biased for one driver or another it makes any rational discussion of the sport impossible.

McLaren apparently set a new record for the fastest ever pitstop here.

Yet the average was :paperbag:

Yes, but it shows definite steps forward. The problem in the other stop apparently is that they have introduced a front jack similar to Ferrari's, and there was a manufacturing fault on it as it is a new item. I think the pitstop guys actually did a good job for McLaren given the problem and it's consequences - it wasn't their fault.

Yeah, I watched the replay a number of times and you can clearly see the jack snap and fail and then having to be removed and a backup jack man come in. So it was something they anticipated. I don't know if there's always a backup jack man, but I think overall they're going to be much more practiced in the routine going forward.
