That moment was sadly the only highlight for Lewis fans the entire GP. :hehe:

Vettel should've been shown the blue flags for holding up a faster car he wasn't racing against.

DAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! :whip:

Or maybe these backmarkers should know their place. :whip:

Going by the hand flapping and the statements after the race it wasn't the backmarker who didn't know his place. At least he didn't call him a gherkin.

That's because it would have been embarrassing explaining to the German media how he got overtaken by a gherkin in a damaged car.

What a terrible insult to gherkins. Did a gherkin run over your cat or something? :hehe:

FFS!!! Do you guys think I'm stupid or something? I meant the last two races at Hockenheim! I.E. 2010 and 2012!!! In 2010, we had the team order thing. And, in my opinion, there's NO debate over what happened with Seb's penalty, but it still seems to be a topic of discussion even now in this thread! Hence, my light-hearted observation!

F!cking hell! :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Calm down man !! !!

You know, I thought it was pretty epic what Lewis did. Until he didn't seem to make an effort to get past Alonso. It looked like a fabulous team effort, but it also seemed like more of a help to Alonso.

I like to think that he didn't pass Alonso because he was showing what an effective team mate he would be for Alonso next year. I'm now 52% sure that Hamilton will be leaving McLaren next year.

I totally disagree. Knowing Lewis, it would've been more enjoyable to pull a pass on Alonso than Seb, given past history. But then, Alonso is probably the most difficult driver to pass at the moment (along with Petrov).

Also, the LAST thing McLaren would do is assist Ferrari. Their rivalry goes back years and years and years. Such a thing would be seriously unlikely to emanate from both LH and his team.

"If he wants to go fast then he can drop back, find a gap and go fast there." --Vettel on Hamilton after the Hockenheim grand prix.

I laughed so hard at the absurdity of such a comment. Ok..I'm sorry but wtf is this guy doing in F1 with comments like this? Is he f***ing serious? :yikes:

Difficult to disagree with your sentiments. :)

I find it quite easy to disagree. A backmarker should not be interfering with the leaders unless they are going to go at the same pace or faster than the leaders. Sitting on the nose of the Vettel on the run from the hairpin was ridiculous.

Yes...maybe Lewis should've pressed the NOS button from the hairpin so he could dissapear from Vettel's sight in mere seconds. What a moronic comment. Obviously he is going to be in front of Vettel when he overtakes, and will take a couple of corners to build a gap? Think before you type for once.

Im pretty sure from memory that Hamilton DID start to pull away from Alonso, was catching him, and even had a go at overtaking him in the next couple of laps - but Alonso wasnt as stupid as Vettel (or is a better driver) and managed to keep Lewis behind him. Then Lewis gradually fell back again.

So I dont think Lewis intentionally sat between the pair.
#313984
Yeah why would Hamilton WANT to sit between them anyway? Alonso is a way bigger threat in the WDC compared to Vettel, even at that point.

Hamilton was maybe just a few tenths faster than the leaders and got Vettel when his tyres were still at their prime...attacked Alonso twice but didn't work and after that his tyres were probably past their best already.
#313986
Lewis would have gone for Alonso for certain. I was watching with French commentary so I couldnt follow it all. I was tracking Lewis by monitoring his gap to the cars he needed to overtake. He was gaining on them hand over fist through the race but sometime after he overtook Vettel the gap stabalised, then he fell back, then retired. So I think the car damage kicked in and prevented him going for Alonso.

Tyres, those guys were on new tyres at completely different times hence the variations in pace. Hamilton was quick and able to pass, etc, cause he was on much fresher boots, then they wore and he fell back again. They retired him so he could get a new gearbox and stuff without penalty.
#314002
I agree Scotty, the retirement was tactical in nature but there was clearly enough damage to the car that Lewis wanted to pull out soon after the incident and they talked him into staying out. Perhaps the data gathered was valuable since dry running time with all of the new upgrades brought to the car was scarce.

Hamilton did attempt to pass Alonso

Plus on the BBC F1 site judge this
Vettel denies calling @LewisHamilton "stupid" in Germany when the entire F1 media centre heard him do exactly that.Goodness me. To be clear, today the question was, have you apologised to Lewis for calling it a stupid decision?
SV answer: "If I say after race I thought it was unnecessary and then it gets quoted that I said he is stupid, it’s quite disappointing"
Interesting story.
