Hamilton seemed pretty p!ssed with himself, and as DC and EJ pointed out, somewhat unnecessarily so.

Should Sutil expect a penalty? Is the bad-blood between the two of them STILL running deep?

This isn't a race where you want to start in the midfield. Especially with Grosjean staring at your ar$e, and Maldonado staring at Grosjean's ar$e!

Atleast Lewis blamed himself for not being fast enough before he got baulked by Sutil, his S2 was slow and that cost him.

Thats was a tricky session. Lewis was trying too hard and went off and was unlucky with traffic on the last run. I think the reason he is so hard on himself is maybe it brought back memories of 2011 when that kind of thing was frequent. Pushing too hard to make the difference leading to wrong situations etc

But I dont think its that bad, Ross is good at strategy in these types of situations and maybe the choice of tyre could help. Also he has a few drivers ahead like Button and Sergio who are bound to take each other off. Hulks car wont stay at the front, and Alonso and Massa could take points of Seb if he makes a mistake. Sergio came from 12th to second before.

Hopefully the Merc and Ferrari will be better in the race than in quali, or they might as well give Seb the title :irked:

Talk about high standards, it's his first real mistake on track since 2011 and he's acting like he just ran over a marshall. :hehe:

He needs to get a grip of himself. being like that won't do him any good 2morrow.

He loves a fight, should be good.

Hopefully Lauda will have a chat with him and get it in perspective. Lewis expects a lot of himself ...and his team...and when he lets them down he's uspet with himself, thats how he is. Sergio came second from 12th place year so all's not lost.

WB, the reason I said it like that was because it was said recently that Lewis takes the credit and blames the team...clearly not so!

Ok, as you were all

The car was damaged when he ran off the track and lost performance, so Lewis was way too hard on himself. Nothing so bad about going off track in Q2 while pushing, and the fact he was subsequently slower wasnt so driving bad. The car was just slow. Hopefully that will be a boost for Lewis if the car repaired.

hear that Lewis? your car was damaged thats why you were slow, dont worry!

Lewis Hamilton's performance in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix was hurt by damage to his car's floor, Mercedes boss Ross Brawn has said.

The Briton failed to make Q3 for the first time since the 2010 Malaysian Grand Prix, finishing down in 12th position after saying he had driven like an 'idiot'.

Brawn revealed afterwards that Hamilton had damaged his car's floor earlier in the session, and was losing performance as a result.

He said the team found the problem too late to fix it.

"Lewis was looking OK, but unfortunately he hit a kerb and damaged the car's floor," Brawn said after qualifying.

"We didn't realise the consequences of that until a bit later in the session.

"It was irreparable, so that was unfortunate as well. It just wasn't our day. We have to try to do a better job."

Brawn admitted it had been a poor day for Mercedes after Nico Rosberg had been hindered by a problem in Saturday morning's practice session.

"It definitely wasn't a great day for all of us today," he added.

"We had a reliability issue with Nico in the morning, which meant we lost most of the session, and to me Monza is always about confidence for the driver.

"I think losing that amount of time was always going to be difficult and it meant we didn't really have a great balance on Nico's car during qualifying. That wasn't great."

I wondered if he'd damaged it when he was wiggling it around after he came back on track. The way Brawn spoke though it sounds like it was a curb earlier than that? The way he spoke, 'earlier in the session....we didnt spot it' was it something earlier that contributed to that obvious moment? Or is Brawn referring to that moment?

I'm wondering if this self abuse isn't going to help him tomorrow and kill any kind of confidence, or if it'll drive him to do the drive of his life. I feel it will be one or the other.

Hey, CookinFlat6!! Thanks for humouring me with that great discussion.
Considering how much has transpired since your last post, I think it's best we let
it be, with you getting the last word.

But, make no mistake, just because I backed off does NOT mean I backed down!

p.s. thanks to everyone for the compliments. I'm happy not to have made a fool
of myself in defending my position and your words have proven that to me!! :wavey:
