I find it funny that some Mercedes fans are so concerned about what tire a time was set set with, when the time itself is almost meaningless. At the same time they barely mention the real massive advantage the team has created by achieving such great mileage over the whole of pre season testing.

Mercedes are deserved favorites for the season, and it's all because of their pre season test program and how well they put that together - it has nothing to do with one lap time on tire x or tire y.

Nobody can say that this is unfair that Mercedes deserve to be favourites. This was coming and they fulfilled their aim...Will they win the championship is to discuss for another day, but they look hot favourites for the Oz

Well I've just asked on twitter which tyres was Lewis on. Directed it @ Pirelli, Lewis. Merc and one of the fan sites. The fan site have replied SS.

But surely they know as much as us.

I think its telling that only the fan site responded - and not either of the two bodies supposedly in the know. Could it be that both Pirelli and Merc have conflicting info, but both think they are right...?

The F1Fanatic site is quoting them as SS, and say they have had this confirmed by Pirelli, and Pirelli admitted to them the 'soft' quote was a mistake - but F1 fanatic have no quote or 'proof' to back it up*.

*this is where I got my post about Pirelli from earlier.

For me its more a Lewis thing. Its clear to me what he said and how happy he was and why he was beaming afterwards. Just not sure why we cant take the chaps word without blowing it into the type of circulars beloved by certain members who stir it but dont provide anything to back it.

What do you say to my interpretation of what Lewis himself said?

"There's a lot more to come," insisted Hamilton. "I did two runs on the supersofts - the first run was not very good, part of the lap was okay but there were a few mistakes, and then the second run was terrible. But that's just part and parcel of trying to learn how to extract the most from those tyres and now that I know there's a whole heap more grip to come from those tyres I'll set up the car better to extract it."

"I did two runs on the supersofts - the first run was not very good, part of the lap was okay but there were a few mistakes
He did 2 runs on SS - check
First run not good but a sector very good - Now for those saying he did his best time on this lap - why would he say this?

and then the second run was terrible
The second run was terrible, not good enough

We have the Autosport live data reporting his best time, then 5 minutes later reporting he is going out on SS.

Cookin I read that and interpreted it slightly differently. I believe he said his first lap on the ss had mistakes (but still did the best time of the day) and then second run was terrible (aborted). However, which lap was it where he made the quickest 1st sector (even quicker than his fastest lap) and then aborted? 1st run? or 2nd run on ss? IF it was on the 1st run, then we could conclude his fastest lap was before this 2 run thing....on the used softs.

However, your last line reg the live timing is also very telling. The live commentary could shed some light on this. What I find confusing is Mercedes official fb page claiming he did it on the ss. I'm lost to be honest.

well at least you are prepared to look into it and read around,

Some instead just make assumptions without an ounce of evidence and then tell us they are assaulting us with their superior intellect :yikes:

14:10 Chilton improves in the Marussia just after the session resumes, while Hamilton sets the fastest lap of the day so far, just two hundredths of a second slower than Massa's benchmark from yesterday.

Boxes14:12 It's been a long stint in Bahrain, but F1 is preparing to get on the move again.

Freight is being packed up in the paddock - next stop Australia (via the factories).

14:13 An engine problem has curtailed Force India's day early. The last 40 minutes of this test will run under floodlight as the circuit has just switched on its beams.

14:21 Button's day is also done early. McLaren suffered an engine failure on a high-mileage unit.

14:22 Hamilton is about to head out on super-softs in the Mercedes...

14:26 Alonso's done Ferrari's best lap of the test so far, but is still third overall, behind Bottas and Hamilton.

14:28 Hamilton goes fastest of all in the first sector but loses three tenths in the middle of the lap. Backs off into the 1m41s across the line.

14:33 Hamilton manages a 1m33.8s lap last time around, but hasn't been able to get close to his previous best.

Esteban Gutierrez14:35 First shots are coming in of F1 under lights at Sakhir.

As you can see Autosport says he did his first run on SS at 1428 and backed out after fastest 1st sector

Then his second SS run 5 minutes later at 1433, sowhat was he doing for 5 minutes?

Driving at 20 mph? or enjoying the sights? or maybe getting his second set of SS for the second run

Nope I am sticking with Pirelli and my own limited intellect on this until I see for myself other evidence.

^ Looks like we have a mod here who's gleefully looking out to ban someone. :hehe:

Edit

Btw, anyone have something to say reg Autosport's live feed which cookin's posted? Seems quite clear what went on there to me....and Pirelli's website might just have got it right after all.
