I think it's stupid to blame the new rules. Very stupid. Bahrain has NEVER been an exciting race, it has always been like this.
There was plenty of excitement, you just didn't pay attention.

It's not the rules that bore you its the fact F1 cars have become so modern! Short braking distances & double diffusers are the problem.
If anything there's too much emphasis on aerodynamic downforce rather than mechanical grip.

Low downforce & high mechanical grip is what F1 needs.

What we need is for cars to look like this again;

And gated shifters instead of flappy paddles!

It would sort the men from the boys, especially as there's always the risk of missing gears, and then you may also get drivers who develop the ability to short-shift;

What everyone needs is to wait until we've seen a few races. The huge spread in times this weekend seemed to be related to S2, where everyone was bouncing around or sliding. Basing your opinions on one race is silly :P

I went in to this race with very high hopes. What I was expecting was that they would all be using super-soft tires so they can go as fast as they can with these intense super quick pit stops! Apparently I was wrong. I say down with the "required 2 different tire" rule, ONLY provide a super-soft tire which will force them to pit every 10 laps or so. Overtaking would definitely be more intense, and not so boring to watch!!
I almost fell asleep...in fact, I was almost asleep for many of the races last year!

When are these rules going to allow them to start racing again!! :banghead:

One way to introduce some pit stop strategy would be to make it like a few other sports and only have two wheel guns. This means you need to make a decision between taking more time to change all four tyres or go for a quick rears or right side tyres to gain track position.

I think I must have been watching a different G.P to some on here. Yes, Bahrain is not considered a good track, so the question to the FIA is, "Why do you persist with it" Most of the top drivers were complaining bitterly post race that it was a procession...............and it was. OK the track is a tad longer than last year, but when you consider that Timo and Yarno were lapping in the 1.34's and last position was lapping in the 1.36's show's that having a lighter fuel load adds to the excitement. I agree that racing is not all about overtaking, but it has to be well up there, the only reason that Lewis and the Ferrari's got past seb was due to Vettels unfortunate mechanical issue, not good driving by the others.

IMHO, the reduction in the number of sets of tyres allowed for each team, coupled with the teams unable to form great fuel strategies have added to the disapointment I felt in this first race. I want to see great racing, heart in the mouth overtaking battles that we used to see between Schuey and D.H etc etc. Not a bloody scalextric procession of cars going round a track in the anticipation that movement through the field will only be achieved by car failure.

Yes its the 1st race of the season on a poor track. If we are seeing the same results half way through the season then some serious questions need to be raised with Bernie and co.

Paint never dries? Diabolically tedious. Little overtaking, and little competiion. Schumacher :- "Overtaking was basically impossible unless somebody made a mistake"

I would agree that it's too early to conclude that races will be on the whole more boring this year. But, given the evidence of Sunday, it's certainly not too early to raise this as a serious potential issue. And, that's what I think people have done in this thread.

to be honest i dont really care about overtaking on track, i dont know why they needed to change it. There was enough of it and 2007 and 2008 were the most exciting seasons i can remember.

Hi this is my first post.
I agree that the FIA should have never changed the rules at the end of the 2008 season. As a massive F1 fan since 1993 I can safely say that 2007-2008 where the best seasons I can remember, why did the FIA need to change the rules when things were so good??? Ok there where some rubbish races but it was mostly very exciting. I remember posting on another forum saying that I thought the FIA where making a mistake. Anyways it’s very early in the season and it’s a bit to early to say plus some damp races will make things interesting.

I wasn't bored but I wasn't exactly on the edge of my seat either. The rules are part of the reason but the track isn't exactly noted for being one of the more exciting ones.

The new receipe for insomnia, watch an F1 GP, recommended to put you to sleep within 2 laps, no effort required!!

Massa drove for 30laps plus in economy mode, how can that be racing!!

The new rules are a complete disaster.

There is even less chance of passing now because you either don't have enough gas left to put the pedal down or your tires are stuffed because of the heavy fuel load.

I hope for F1's sake that the FIA will be conducting an urgent rethink.

OH and a question, what happens when there is a nasty crash between cars with full tanks? I hope I am not watching and I hope it never happens.

Please guys, lets apply some common sense, remove the aero, remove the no refuelling, open the tyre restrictions and lets see some real innovation.

And the pit stops, they are too quick for the TV coverage to even time them!! As for Redbull doing 80 practise pitstops a day, I have never heard of anything so futile. What the hell does that have to do with Motor Sport?? Mandate the pitstops to be a min 5secs.

I am becoming very disillussioned with what what my favourite sport...

NEWSFLASH!

If you don't like something, don't watch it and quit bitching!! Crazy idea i know. :rolleyes:

For anyone who wants to complain about a lack of overtaking, there were 19 passes yesterday (not including things like the spins that Sutil, Kubica and Hulkenberg had, or passing Timo Glock as he toured to the pits) compared with the 15 of last year. Overtaking is not the most important factor, clearly. If it was, then it would only be logical that people found the British grand prix less exciting than the Bahrain grand prix. ;)
