I say go fishing McLaren.
I do concede Kimi is a good catch......but they already have lewis , which kinda makes the second catch a little less crucial :D

Yes, that's why they 'fished' Kovalainen and look what happened.

I say Kimi ask for 10 M at Mclaren, plus the 10 M from Ferrari. That's good enough.
Kimi making 5 M, while Lewis is making 15 M is ridiculous, regardless of what Ferrari is paying. After all, Kimi will crush the Hamster......

:rofl::rofl::rofl: Crush Hammy??? He couldnt crush Massa.
Kimi can take it or leave it. He'll be making plenty. And like amanda says what is more important to him an extra 2mil or a chance at the title.McLaren dont need him that bad.

If he prefers the extra 2m, rather than a chance at the 2010 championship, then I don't consider it a huge loss for McLaren. He might be one of the best drivers on the grid but if he lets money get in the way of success then I doubt his heart's really in it anyway.

I totally agree.

Me too.

hmmmm me too :D
He may be worth more than the 5 Mil, but if he declines even the 5 Mil offer it'll show why he came and went from F1 with little glory. Gotta race with heart.
Perhaps up his bussiness to get 10M from Mclaren, or maybe have clauses to receive those extra 5 Mil depending on his performance or if he gets the WDC.......

Funny seeing the anti McLaren brigades reasoning in this thread

I think it's the principle of the matter that gets some of our goats after reading McLaren "realising this" and how they justify their so-called offer.

Here's a sarcastic equivalent of what McLaren is trying to do IMHO:

"Hey Mr. F1 Driver, we consider 15M/year 'a very healthy amount' for you and would like you to drive for us. BTW, we heard your uncle recently went belly up and left you 10M... so here's another 5M to make us as good as our 'word'. How does that sound buddy boy???" - McLaren

And the principle of the matter is from what I can see it's only Ferrari fans who have an issue with this scenario which is understandable because you'd feel pretty stupid having to pay a guy to drive for the 2010 season and he won't be driving for you!
End of the day Kimi is getting paid for 2010 McLaren are offering him a seat in a top team with a salary more than the current world champ makes!

Personally I'm surprised Kimi is a sell out ching ching kimi

He's going to take the offer. He should!

I bet he is probably testing the waters to see if he gets Mclaren to come up with a better offer. But i'd be very surprised if the reason Kimi takes the sabatical/retire is because of $... if there is any indecision its probably because he was retiring anyway next yr or he's simply unwilling to go to Mclaren...

Make no mistake, I'm Ferrari all the way and damn proud of it.

As for the gripe... it's simply about a talented driver being paid for what he's worth and not being shortchanged.

Some of you McLaren fans are synonymous with our republicans...

He has an offer to drive and make 15 mil or to sit on his arse and make 17 mil I don't see what your gripe is other than it being McLaren.....! We will see if Kimi is in it for the money or the love of racing!

But, Not being American the Republican swipe went straight over my head sorry! but ok let's play politic comparisons, let's compare Ferrari fans to communists then!

republicans in our neck of the woods just don't "get it". I could be far more mean, but you get the gist.

mclaren can offer him what ever they want, 1p, 1mil, 10mil etc, he doesnt have to take it, they arent black mailing him

if i was team boss, i wouldnt pay much more than that, hes too unredictable, massa, alonso, both always want to do well, and thats why ferrari have them, same with lewis, its come to the point where the least motivated driver is without a seat, and tht says it all,

and yeah as gaz said, kobayashi would be an excellent choice! would love to see him gt that seat, could probs pay him under a mil, hed be grateful,

i would love to see that :)
