McLaren got a 100mil fine for "spying" and we sacked the two main people involved.

WE????

?

Who's we?

My team have gotten away lightly I will admit.

Thats the fooking understatement of the year. What a complete whitewash, the FIA didn't want to lose Renault, thats the top and bottom. Mclaren get a $100m fine for spy-gate, and Renault get slapped on the wrist. The sport (allegedly) has become a joke :banghead::banghead::banghead:

The sport IS a joke. I don't even watch the full races anymore. I wouldn't even consider it a sport in the sense the driver skill is the one that determines championships.

Eddie Jordan is on every single news channel giving his opinion on this

Why did Symonds only get a 5 year ban while Briatore got a lifetime one? I realise that Flavio isn't as popular as Symonds but from the evidence I saw they both seemed equally culpable in this, in fact Symonds looked like the one responsible for orchestrating the whole thing on race day.

I'll answer the most likely rhetorical question.

Because the powers that be wanted to get rid of Flavio forever, but they didn't want to get rid of Symonds permanently, and they didn't want to get rid of Renault at all.

Flavio Briatore: permanent ban = good riddance

Pat Symonds: 5 year ban = disappointed with him but could have been tougher

Fernando Alonso: cleared of any knowledge which is likely true. Did he suspect something afterwards (heard rumors and complaints from other drivers/teams) probably yes although knowing that Piquet was crashing every other race, who would suspect foul play? He must have asked FB/PS about it and of course they are going to deny any wrong doing. They will be crazy to let another person in on their plan. Was it done to benefit Alonso, probably not. Most signs are pointing towards getting a win to please the sponsors.

Nelson Piquet jr.: no penalty because of immunity = it's a big joke. He should have received 1-2 years ban. No matter what the pressure was on this mediocre driver, he endangered someone's life and that's punishable. Anyone who drives a car knows that those machine could kill and that's why we punish irresponsible drivers. To get away lightly is a joke. I hope he's finished in F1.

Team Renault: 2 year suspended ban = fair & unfair. Fair because F1 has become 75% money/25% sports (which is sad). Banning Renault is a big loss to FIA especially with BMW leaving and both Toyota & Renault considering quitting F1 and considering the bad economy. Also, banning Renault will affect many people's jobs who had nothing to do with it. Unfair because Renault should have received a symbolic light penalty ($10-30 millions). Would Mclaren have received $100 million penalty if it happened this year, unlikely. Maybe $10-30 millions would do it.

FIA/BE/MM: The Biggest Winners. More control over the teams, screwing up FOTA by getting rid of the major heads. It's no coincidence that Todt/Dennis/Briatore are out in these past 3 years. It opens up spots for newer people and bringing in new teams that favor the FIA will diminish FOTA's powers.

F1 Fans: The Biggest Losers. This makes people more disgusted with the sports and more angry at what is going on in F1.

I have been not believing in all the comments that the FIA are corrupt but today I have finally come to say that they are corrupt
McLaren get a 100 million pounds fine for having Ferrari info that they did not even use

and Renault can crash and fix a race and only get a suspended fine it is a joke a big joke

From the BBC "Symonds was banned from all FIA events for five years but the FIA noted his communication to the hearing "that it was to his 'eternal regret and shame' that he had participated in the conspiracy".

Should have been banned for life the cheating git. Let him walk the walk of shame

To some extent, yes, but the level to which people were involved and information was/was not used is cloudy in the McLaren case (for which I think the FIA's punishment is ridiculous). However, it is simply stupid to hand out a $100m fine in this economical climate, it would have been the end for the team. In this case, the people proven to be responsible have been punished, excepting Piquet (which I find disgusting).

If I recall correctly, I remember you saying that Hamilton was rightly let off for cheating... (Note, I'm not defending Symonds)
