It seems to me that if MB buys into Brawn, supplies McLaren, Force India, Red Bull and possibly Williams and perhaps some of the new teams as well as being a partner with McLaren this is fast becoming a Mercedes Benz racing series in which it competes with itself.
With this level of presence, MB gets access to a lot of information that will not come to the remaining members of the grid and hence it could be come a very boring form of racing. If an example of this is required just look at the IRL.
One engine+one chassis= very boring racing.
If the FIA does not step in, F1 will lose its appeal and will no longer be the so called pinnacle of motor sport. It has already lost credibility over the scandals with one to come. Continuing to dilute the gene pool of F1 is a road to disaster!
JET!
I know you, your that nice guy who reads the articles I post on here.
Thank you for that. Also I agree in prinicple with what you are saying.
You have to remember the circumstances surrounding the Cosworth DFV becoming such a force. Despite it being the best engine out there, the FIA allowed Cosworth to get into such a position because it was cheap to run for the teams and it allowed them to keep Ford in the sport.
You have to remember that in the late 60s some of the big F1 backers left and the likes of Firestone started charging for Tyres. With this, the FIA had to try and make the sport affordable for the teams. To do this they finally allowed sponsorship as well as tried to strike deals with the likes of Cosworth to create a buy-off-the-shelf engine which was reliable, powerful and cheap.
It also allowed for the fascinating game of Aero v Power.
