Kovalainen seems a nice guy, but he is not getting the job done. Fact. The statistics speak for themselves. In 2007, McLaren had four one-two finishes, and would have won the constructors' title without all of the political hullabaloo. In 2008, McLaren had zero one-two finishes and were always second favourites for the constructors' title. With a car as good as the MP4-23, this was wholly unacceptable. As a McLaren supporter, I'm not interested in a de facto one-two driver system and/or seeing the constructors' title fall out of the team's hands repeatedly. If Kovalainen is still driving for McLaren next season, I shall not be happy.

I agree with you. He drives McLaren decently but decent is just not enough right now. Nico has been showing his speed in last races and he's making excellent progress with his car. I really hope to see someone new in McLaren next year

Rosberg is who I'd like to see. He's always been very good, but he's revved things up this season in particular. To be honest, though, I can think of at least ten other Formula One drivers I'd rather see in Kovalainen's seat.

Political hullabaloo? Is that the new word for getting caught cheating? I'm sorry man, I was a McLaren fan back then (until the cheating and Alonso crap showed me how far McLaren management had sunk), but when you cheat like that and get caught...it's not political hullabaloo when you are punished. It's justice and in that case, it wasn't harsh enough. Stealing millions of pounds worth of car set up research is not the same as swiping the answers off your buddies physics homework. It deserved a harsh penalty and suggesting anything less is just cheerleading for your team.

Not to take away from this but.

1. Its never been proven that Ron, Martin etc.. knew of this stuff
2. It was Ferrari Man who brought this s*** to Mclaren.

But thats not to say it wasn't wrong, but Mclaren certainly aren't the only team in F1 ignoring the rules they just got caught and because they are Mclaren punished hard for it.

Santander says Alonso-Ferrari deal is 'dream'
Racing series F1
Date 2009-08-26

By Motorsport.com/GMM

The only missing element to the Santander/Ferrari sponsorship deal beginning in 2010 is an official press announcement.

It is an open secret in the F1 paddock that the Spanish bank will switch from McLaren at the end of the year, presumably to team up with Fernando Alonso at Ferrari.

Asked about the rumours, Santander's executive vice president for communications and corporate marketing Juan Manuel Cendoya told AS newspaper: "The world's best bank, the world's best team, the world's best driver -- without doubt that is a dream combination for any sponsor."

However, it has been whispered in recent days that McLaren is trying everything to retain Santander; including - according to El Mundo newspaper - by asking the bank if wooing Alonso back to the Mercedes powered team would change its mind.

The German newspaper TZ said contact has been made by officials of the Woking based team to Alonso's manager Luis Garcia Abad.

"At no time have I spoken with Fernando Alonso about contracts," Mercedes' Norbert Haug said in a teleconference for German media this week.

"We talk from time to time and I send him a SMS if he drives a good race. But never (do we talk) about contracts," he insisted.

Can't really see this happening but i wouldn't be unhappy if it did, 2007 was great for team mate battles. And now Lewis is a WDC and Alosno seams to have mellowed abit from being in a midfield they might respect each other more.

Also Ron has gone so hopfully Martin can manage them better.

Dream on.......

We've been here before. I don't think we need to rake through this again. It's completely beside the point. It is more than adequate to say that Kovalainen has hardly fulfilled the team's expectations and should be replaced for 2010.

They can fight all they want, all that I care is that one of them wins for Ferrari. In the end Ferrari winning ia all that matters. Who wins for them is secondary.

Yup HK lost us the constructors in 2008 no other way of putting it. McLaren need two very fast and consistent drivers! I don't care if it's Alonso, Kimi or Rosberg.
