Vettel is far from serious. He's modest and laid back. I mean, naming his car, joking around on the grid. He just enjoys racing, winning car or not.

I think this has a lot to do with the atmosphere that reigns in both RB teams, especially in RBR. Laid back and very willing to make jokes about everybody and everything incl. themselves. If/when SV starts driving for a more 'serious' team that doesn't share his sense of humor (McLaren or BMW come to mind here), I fear his humorous ways of doing and seeing things might get squelched. Unless that is if he's already a big enough star with a strong enough sense of leadership by then - he might be able to change things at whatever team he chooses to drive for at least to a certain degree :)

Or Red Bull could establish themselves as a true front-runner

That would probably be the best scenario for him and his personal development - only problem might be their budget. If he's worth more than what he's being paid now, it'll be tough for RBR to match his demands unless they get great sponsor deals based on their championship successes.

Do you think, given his approach to the sport, that Vettel would become whiny and demanding like that? He strikes me as the type who would settle for an average salary as long as he was given the opportunity to race well and enjoy himself, with race wins and maybe a championship or two to go with it. Red Bull, surely, are capable of that. Were it not for the double-decker diffusers this season, it's entirely possible (and very likely, in my opinion) that their package would have been one of the top two.

Hm, so let's say he wins the championship this year as the youngest ever. Don't you think his objective market value would rise astronomically? And don't you think he would seriously consider a multi-year, multi-million contract that big teams will undoubtedly dangle in front of him? He's not stupid and realizes that he's got only a limited time in this sport and needs to see to it that his future is secured, from a sporting point of view and financially.

Vettel is the new Schumacher if:

He takes a stop go penalty after the last lap of the race
He knocks a guy and himself off the track to win a title
He parks at on the track in Quali to keep pole
His teammate is faster than him but moves over for him
He swerves way over at the start
He ignores a black flag
His team forgets there is another driver
He forgets there is another driver
He puts full wets on Kimi in the dry

Well, he's still young isn't.

Vettel really isn't the kind of driver to ask for a large salary. He still lives with his parents. I don't think he's worried about how big a manison he can buy right now.

F1live:

"In the beginning Mark resisted using Vettel's setup. He would not accept it. Now he uses it because it is just faster," Marko said.

Not only is Webber eleven years older than Red Bull's new arrival, Vettel has contested 97 fewer races but already won twice.

So, he's good at setting up the car as well...

Personally I think getting the car set-up right is what makes the difference these days. Drivers with a better feel for the car, and who are more motivated will get a better set-up go faster. We see it with Kimi, he's got raw talent in spades but last couldn't get the right set-up and suffered at times.

Vettel clearly is getting the set-up just right. But it must be hard for Mark right now. I'm sure there's a bit of frustration deep down there, because he is a great driver and doing nothing wrong. Webber must of wanted that win at China, but Vettel's the one getting all the glory lately. Wouldn't everyone just love Piquet as there team-mate. He'd make you look so good :D

Every top F1 driver has driven "dirty" in the past, Lewis has, Senna did, Mansell did and I even remember Damon tried giving Schumacher a bit of his own medicine at Montreal in 1998 which was quite satisfying, especially when Schumi made a right fuss about it afterwards. Vettel will probably only drive just as dirty, but not on the Schumacher level.
#110808
We'll see. I could see any driver drive dirty, but I honestly I don't think we'll see Vettel drive dirty. I just get the vibe from him that he's harmless. But we'll see. We can't predict future.
