You're right there! Jackie not quite from rags but two stunning drivers from Scotland!

Well in a way he is, his family wasn't exactly full of money, they only owned that small garage.

No they weren't rich but they were well connected. I read his autobiography. He got drives form people who came to have their cars serviced there.Thats how lots of them started . It was a differeent world from today.

Well arguably that doesn't speak mean he was rich. I too have read Stewart's authobiography, but as you said it was very different times from now. If you have ever been to the likes of Dunns or even Dumbartonshire, you can see that even then Scottish country life was a million miles away from Formula One.

And Formula1 then was a millon miles away from what it is now. They didnt drive from the day they were toilet trained. They started driving way later-Late teens.very different.

A lot of drivers back in the 50's and 60's were quite old too, Fangio was in his 40's when he was winning his titles. The record for the oldest driver to compete was somebody aged about 58 ish.

I've seen that Oulton Park clip a good many times, and it still blows my mind how there is onboard footage of the great Jim Clark in 1963, way before Grand Prix racing was regularly shown on television. I'm sure i'm not the only one who has seen the great many onboard videos from the late 70s and early 80's cars, but to see such an early example and for it to be of Jim Clark is just great :)
