Corrupt, indecisive, clueless.

...why are these guys still running the show?

yeh its daft but i do wonder if it would be worse if it were the teams.

especialy when it came to banning parts.

There needs to be an out side indipendant party, but i don't think the FIA is 1. indipendent or 2. profesional enough to fill that role.

Max Mosley believed all the teams supported the idea of the new "winner-takes-all" points system because Bernie Ecclestone told him so.

Under the new measures introduced earlier this week, the driver with the most wins during the season would be crowned champion. However, teams questioned the validity of the rule change and objected to the decision to alter the system with under two weeks to go until the start of the new season.

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA was, on Friday, forced to do a u-turn on the introduction of the changes, deferring the implementation of the new system on how the World Championship is decided until 2010.

Mosley, however, was under the impression that the rule change had the full support of the teams.

"Bernie [Ecclestone, F1's commercial rights holder] told me that he talked to all the teams and everybody was happy," FIA president Mosley told the Daily Telegraph.

"I was led to believe they all agreed. The World Council was under the impression that they had all agreed."

Mosley also confirmed that there is not enough time to resolve the diffuser row before the start of the 2009 season.

A row would appear to be brewing over the legality of the diffusers belonging to Brawn GP, Toyota and Williams with their rivals questioning the size of the device.

"It's a very clever device and you can make a very good case for saying that it's legal and a very good case for saying that it's illegal. It's going to be difficult," Mosley continued.

"What's actually happened is that teams are saying 'We think it's illegal for this and this reason.'

"If there had been more time before the detailed objections to the system were sent in, I would probably have sent it to the FIA Court of Appeal before Australia.

"And actually I have given thought to that this week. But there isn't time. It wouldn't be fair. I think the thing will probably come to some sort of a head in Australia

Did he not think he should ring somebody to confirm it " what a knob"

Does anyone believe this? After FOTA had made their own, very different, recommendations. My opinion is, he's not even trying to come up with believable lies.

And allegedly someone told Bernie the teams were in favour and I doubt it was FOTA.

It's all lies, f*** ups and more lies. Are they trying to discredit the sport so much that no one would want to take their positions away from them?

Mosley: FOTA response was 'weak'

By Matt Beer Saturday, March 21st 2009, 12:16 GMT

FIA president Max Mosley says he regarded the Formula One Teams' Association's response to the introduction of budget caps as 'weak', and feels the teams' body should have gone further with its own proposals.

FOTA recently unveiled plans for cost cuts that it believed would reduce Formula 1 budgets by 50 per cent, but the FIA World Motor Sport Council still chose to introduce an optional £30 million budget cap for 2010.

A FOTA statement expressed the teams' 'concern' at this development, but Mosley says the independent outfits are in favour of the concept.

"It was a weak response," Mosley told the Daily Telegraph. "They knew we were considering a budget cap, but I don't think they expected us just to do it like that.

"The complaint was that we didn't consult them. Well, we've been talking a lot to Force India and Williams, both of whom were very supportive. I've not spoken recently to [Red Bull owner Dietrich] Mateschitz but I would have thought it might appeal to him too.

"In any case, we had to do something. All we've had from the teams so far is 'We've done a fantastic job, we've reduced costs by 50 per cent'. So what?

"It has come down from $300-$400 million to $150-$200 million? Well, that's admirable, but I'm dubious as to whether they will still have $150-$200 million in 2010 and 2011.

"It is provisional. I actually think it could be done for £25 million but that's just my opinion. All my advisers think it should be more."

Mosley remains convinced that the teams will ultimately welcome the idea of a budget cap.

"When people calm down a little bit they will see that all of this is brilliant for Formula 1," he said. "It won't hurt the DNA of the sport - £30 million is still vastly more than any other series."

Interesting way he mixes up dollars and pounds in that release.

So he spoke to two teams and assumed what the position of a third team might be. and thinks the other teams have no reason to complain!

Victory for Common Sense. Victory for Formula One.
However this is only one battle, the war is still on going. Like Mclaren Fan said, the system has only been deferred. As much as I would like to see this idea scrapped, it is only adding a backlog of changes for 2010. The new proposals are going to create a new political war which will undoubtably create much drama!

As much as the FOM/FIA partnership has had its weaknesses exposed with today's announcement, FOTA were also shown to be weak as they failed to have their proposals implemented nor prevent this stupid rule ever being passed in the first place!

But on paper FOTA is the powerful unit. They are the reason we all watch F1 in the first place!! The FIA and FOM are easily replaced and I want to see FOTA flexing its muscles over the year to ensure that their voice is the loudest when it comes to running this sport. That can happen as long as they stick together.

Max and Bernie are probably trying to devise a divide and conquer plan as we speak.

You can't replace the FIA it's their Sport. Only way anything like that could happen would be a breakaway. As for Bernie and FOM, they are not going anywhere.

Hes and idiot, he needs to go.

Bernie is a melding little asshat.
He blantaly lied to the FIA just to get his own way. Honestly, it's a disgrace. This winner takes all attitude needs completely scrapped.

Also, if the FIA thought everyone was for the winner takes all idea, then why do they think the FOTA submitted their 12-9-7 system. I think both the FIA and Bernie have made a huge blunder and they know it, but neither are willing to admit it. Instead they're covering up.

Since Bernie has commercial rights to F1, couldn't FOTA with all teams in agreement, form a new governing body. This would make Max and the FIA irrelevant and give FOTA leverage over Bernie.

No, because the names "F1", "Formula One " etc etc are owned by FOM.
Would need to be an entirely different World Championship.

I know F1 is owned by FOM, but what I'm saying is could FOTA race under the F1 banner but with a governing body other than the FIA. How does Concorde Agree affect this, because not many teams have/or ever signed them.

The main results of the FISA/FOCA war of the early 80s was that the Championship was to be governed by the FIA. The FIA will never be disposed.
