This really is not looking good for McLaren. They've only had, I think, one full day of testing with their 2009 wing. I am concerned about their form for the beginning of the season and, with the testing ban, starting the season on the back-foot is not something they can really afford, especially with so many other teams looking so good at the moment. I really hope they can turn this around for Barcelona.

On another note, it seems Renault are making a little progress, but I still question their potential (or rather, the possibility of them unleashing it early enough in the season). They, too, have had some struggles over the winter.

I think we can safely assume that Alonso will literally drive around the problems that Renault may have and make it look decent whilst Piquet will just stick it in the wall and then get sacked by Flavio.

bloody Piquets, they're like stray cats. once you let them in, there's no getting rid of them. Piquet 'p*sstake' Junior shouldn't have even got the Renault ddrive, it was his delightful father's string pulling that engineered that one.

I tell you what, it is basically impossible to tell any kind of form whatsoever from these testing times, we're getting a different team topping the time sheets each day! Except for FI of course...

not yet, will see if they can get it sorted by the next test.

as Scotty has said its been impossible to read who is a pace setter from this years tests, everyones trying different things at different times so theres been massive gaps even from 1st to 3rd. Only one team has really made an impact i rekn and that would have to be Redbull they seem to have a really quick car so the Aussie fans might have something to cheer about at Melbourne.

The team formerly known as Honda are scheduled to take part in all four days of the final Formula One group test at Barcelona next week.
Team principal Ross Brawn's management-led buy-out of a marque that announced it was withdrawing from F1 in early December, is expected to be confirmed before the start of the test that begins on Monday.
Prior to that, the team - likely to be known as Brawn Racing - will conduct a shakedown of a car that has been in production during the winter despite its uncertain future.
That is understood to be at Silverstone on Friday, just a few miles from the team's current Brackley base, although officials have been tight-lipped regarding the car's maiden outing.
However, a source has confirmed the team is due at the Circuit de Catalunya from Monday when for the first time in pre-season all 10 teams will be on view.
Toro Rosso are to unveil their new challenger, the STR4, on Monday, with Sebastien Bourdais and rookie Sebastien Buemi at the wheel.
As yet it is not known whether Rubens Barrichello or Jenson Button will initially be on track, with the former poised to again take up the race seat for what will be his 17th season in F1.
Although yet to sign a contract, when it came down to the crunch, Barrichello's experience gave him the edge over fellow Brazilian Bruno Senna ahead of what is certain to be a tough, potentially troubled season for Brawn's team.

Too be fair, he did brilliant in GP2, running a close 2nd behind Lewis Hamiliton. So really, he's done a lot more than say Buemi or Nakajima. But unlike Hamiliton, he's switched to F1 and done an abysmal job. He deserved the seat, but he's done a poor job and didn't really deserve to keep it. I wouldn't be surprised to see him kicked off mid-season.

Also, speaking off testing. Hamilitons rear caught fire :D

Damn I'd love to have seen some pictures. But yeah, McLaren seem a little on the back foot. Something I didn't expect, seeing as my thinking was McLaren had built the most promising car so far. They're on top of KERS, the aero looks superb, and their tyre modeling system was sure to give them an advantage. Still, I wouldn't count them out, not by a long shot. Next week it'll be looking normal again. We can't really take that much from testing

Hooray, BMW topping the time sheets today. Makes me smile, even if I know it means very little.

Heidfeld quickest as Jerez test ends

By Pablo Elizalde Thursday, March 5th 2009, 16:33 GMT

Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber, Jerez testingNick Heidfeld posted the fastest time on the final day of testing at the Jerez circuit, where world champion Lewis Hamilton was involved in a low-speed crash.

BMW Sauber driver Heidfeld was the busiest man on track today, with 123 laps covered despite the circuit being hit by rain in the morning and by gusts of wind most of the day.

Heidfeld's best time of 1:20.052 put him over three tenths of a second ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, who also had a productive day in the Ferrari with 112 laps covered.

Hamilton was third quickest, but over a second off Heidfeld's pace, the Briton completing just 58 laps. The world champion lost control of his car due to a sudden gust of wind and ended up crashing backwards and damaging his McLaren's rear wing.

Red Bull's Mark Webber and Williams driver Kazuki Nakajima didn't complete many laps today either on their way to the fourth and fifth fastest times of the day respectively.

Jarno Trulli finished at the bottom of the times for Toyota after managing only 38 laps. The Italian's day came to an early finish after he suffered some damage to his front wing when running over the kerbs.

"That was a short day for us," said Trulli. "We lost the morning to the weather but in the afternoon we had a chance to try out the 2010 Bridgestone slick tyres. The conditions remained difficult because the wind was still strong.

"On one run I picked up some damage to the front wing after running over kerbs. Still, we made it through a number of runs and collected data for the future. As for this season, this test shows that things are going well for us so we can be confident."

Teams will be back in testing action next week in Barcelona.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team Time Laps
1. Heidfeld BMW-Sauber (B) 1:20.052 123
2. Raikkonen Ferrari (B) 1:20.404 112
3. Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes (B) 1:21.272 58
4. Webber Red Bull-Renault (B) 1:22.219 47
5. Nakajima Williams-Toyota (B) 1:22.226 54
6. Trulli Toyota (B) 1:23.119 38

All Timing Unofficial

Still not sure what's going on at McLaren. Pictures indicate that they ran the 2008-spec wing again today and that they had the green aero paint stuff on. I know they won't admit it, but could they really be struggling to fix this? :/
