Who's your son? lol. ok ok. see edit.

Seriously though - what do you think of these happenings?

I think it's another attempt to keep a black driver from winning the WDC again.

What? how?

the medal system would reward those who race consistantly in the top 3, which is kind of a good Idea...

But I dont agree with it because it doesnt give anything to the hard work the other drivers and teams put into F1. A driver could finish 4th in all 18 races and come out with nothing. Its kind of elitist to the top drivers. How would budget teams be able to achieve anything?

To be fair Massa would of won with that medal system but obviously if Spa hadn't of happened Lewis would of still won.

I don't like it eitherway for the same reasons you state above.

well put Kyro! if they want to reward the driver for going for a "gold" then make the point gap for a win greater to something like this

1 - 15
2 - 11
3 - 9
4 - 7
5 - 5
6 - 3
7 - 2
8 - 1

Yeh exacly you'd get closer racing because teams and drivers would be pushing harder and taking more risks because the point haul would be worth it.

Um. who says Lewis will get less wins next year. Don't be daft man. I'm re-editing to the original

it wasn't that long ago that bernie was fighting for more drivers to score points which led to the extended points paying positions.
its a total reversal of that ethos... now 80% of the drivers will be fighting for nothing more than a number at the end of the year (as opposed to say being 10 point ahead of a rival/team mate).
fair enough, there's not all that much difference, but points are more tangible than an arbitrary number. who remembers the 4th place athlete for the '08 olympic 100m sprint (k.. i can't remember 1st, 2nd or 3rd... but i think i still have a point)?
and onto the actual spectacle of f1's '08 finale, its was widely regarded as the best in a number of years. and i'm of the opinion that it wont be rivaled for many years to come, especially with the proposed regs going into '09 and onwards.
bernie really has lost the concept of motor racing. every single form of motor sport around the world uses the points system, in fact most sports use points when it comes to championships... why does f1 need to be different?

all-in-all this is just going to create a 3 horse drivers' championship, where consistency will mean stuff all. just the fastest car will ultimately decide the champion (i'm referring to the likes of the bmw drivers, who will now just be driving for constructor points).
obviously this is just an over simplification of the issue, but bernie and the max are trying to fix something thats not broken... it actually is/was perfect!!

@ f1usa - please don't make this a colour (color) thing, try be reasonable and post intelligently before invoking a racial debate thats not there. :nono:

agreed. Bernard Mosley need to think this through logically and calmly.

Convert the 2008 season to a medal system and Massa will be world champion as Lewis Hamilton would then have to be stripped of his. That would be fair as Massa did win more races and racing is about winning. And don't mention Spa because Lewis Hamilton did do something wrong, that simple really.

I disagree. Its not just winning, its consistency, and I'm very sorry - a guy who can only win from pole does not deserve it. All his wins have been from P1, with exception of Hungary where he got good start into Turn one and was unfortunate to DNF. He's better at giving places (Germany this year) than gaining them. No mate, I'm Ferrari all the way but for me Lewis is a superior driver. Yes getting P1 is the best way to win but winning from further back defines a racer. Kimi (in better years). Alonso (it pains to say) Schumacher. Not Massa. He is tall but thats not enough.

Well at least you go for Ferrari. That is an excellent thing of course. :D:yes::thumbup:

umm... hang about. why are you converting '08 into the '09 medal system? what exactly is your point?
are you saying mAssa deserves the championship? if so, sorry for you bud... it didn't happen.

maybe it will work out for you in '09, but thats next year...

I said this a few times.

The current point system is perfect. The medals idea is the most idiotic idea in history of mankind.

That idiot Bernie is killing a great sport.

I think Mr. Eclestone is little bit like owner with his opinions :director:
He is rich but some ideas are not the very best. Let´s think there is 18 races and one driver is
more than good and wins the first 10 of them. After that he will be more or less bad. But he
would be already the world champion. How about last 8 races. Who cares ?
It´s a great idea to make more meaning for winning. But for example giving 12 points could
be another way. Also point for the fastest lap could give one point.
