Far from making Formula 1 more interesting, the double points takes away the seriousness of the sport. Formula 1 is about consistency over a season like so many other sports. Can we imagine double points for the last game of the season in football? Can one say it is fair that a driver loses double points if he gets shunted off the track by another driver - it's bad enough losing single points already. In fact, would it not be an encouragement to actually create a crash to eliminate a rival? And then there are other lottery factors that would count double: mechanical failure, weather conditions, pit-lane errors, tyres, safety cars.

When the new rules are looking into putting a spending cap, teams would be encouraged to invest in the current car right to the end of the season rather than spending on next season's vehicle as is the case now, stretching their budget further.

As far as I am concerned, this rule makes the sport less interesting. Not more. Totally farcical.

Surprise! Shock! Horror! I actually like the double points rule... Even though it would mean that Vettel wouldn't have won last year had the double points system come in earlier....

But I also think Monaco, Silverstone, and perhaps Spa should count as double points....

The cost cap is also a great idea too - but would be better if there weren't so many restrictions in F1 to prevent innovation (e.g. Exhaust Blown diffuser, double diffuser, fan car, F-flap.... etc). I hope that it would be policed properly - and a serious breach applied and disqualification from this and next year's constructor's championship if a manufacturer is found to be exceeding the cost cap.

And permanent numbers is a fantastic idea for enhancing the marketability of F1, having a number associated with a driver (which could be eventually retired for true greats). It works a treat in Moto GP... I would probably change my number plates on my car to be whatever Vettel's number is....

He's probably just gonna' keep 1 as his number anyway, so we'll never know what his true number is.

In terms of Monaco being double, why don't they make it worth 1/4 points, as it doesn't even classify as a race, more an 'expensive procession around some twisty French town'. Or maybe we can give Monaco the boot to attract the new fans, oh the FIA would love that I'll send an email to Todd off right away, of course I'll make the subject line 'Details on accessing your Ferrari fund for 2014' and then he's certain to read it. #ModernF1

My thoughts exactly, Big A. If all parties can come to an agreement on cost limits, why not loosen up the tech rules a bit. You might want stick with tight regs regarding aero, but why not a simpler engine formula ...... as in 3L engines (no turbos) and let the cost be the restriction. Lots of details to work out, but I think Ferrari, Honda, Renault and Mercedes would welcome more freedom.

There's more to the rule changes. It's not been released yet. It's part two of the driver choosing his own name and is designed to make pitstops clearer and more enjoyable to the casual viewer. The phrase 'BOX, BOX, BOX!' to call a driver into to the pits had been banned. From 2014 onwards drivers have to chose an animals cry, and the engineer uses that to call his man into the pits. Some drivers have already staked a claim on the animal cry they want for next season. It should be stressed that engineers must make the cry realistic and not simply humanise the word. So we have the following.......

Button - Duck. ( quwaaaaark, quwaaaaaaaark, quwaaaaaaark)

Magnesson - Foal. ( neeeeeigh, neeeeeigh, neeeeeeeigh)

Alonso. - cockerel. ( cockdoooooodloooooo, cockadooooooodlooooo)
