COME ON! IT'S MONACO!

It's dull, dangerous and pointless.

If it wasn't for the dosh and the ridiculous pointless stigma it's held in, it would have gone years ago. A procession of cars with no real overtaking or action, driving fast (normally, this year it'll be slow as anything with the tyres). In fact I think the dullness of this race will be magnified 100 fold by the new tyres; this might actually be THE most boring race in the last 5 years.

Darn tootin'!

Look on the bright side, it's not Silverstone. :hehe:

Monaco is any day better than other street circuits out there. Singapore sucks, Valencia sucks even more, any others? Monaco is a REAL street circuit, almost zero margin for error unlike any other circuit out there and that makes it a winner for me.

Of course, Alonso has released a statement saying that Merc are the ones to beat in Monaco... he comes out with some odd statements...

You can see where he's coming from though, as Merc have good qualifying pace and grid position is obviously important at Monaco. However, if tyres are factored in then Merc will surely fall back, even at Monaco?

Remember last years race? When McLaren were actually decent? How many laps was Button behind Kovalainen?

I love Monaco because the drivers love Monaco.

+1 Monaco represents really unique challenges to the teams in terms of car setups. It is great because it provides variety in terms of race conditions to the race schedule. Spa is a popular race, but I think F1 would be boring if we raced at 20 Spa circuits over the course of a year. Monaco is also well known to be a favourite of most of the top drivers because of how challenging it is for a driver. It's totally unforgiving.

Sadly we have to live with the fact that some people's total measure of how good/bad a race is by how many overtakes there are. It doesn't seem to matter if the overtake is as exciting as watching a lorry get passed by a 80's Volvo on the expressway (as myown has well pointed out).

I'd rather watch a tight battle over a dozen laps with great attack and defense, irrespective of whether it results in a pass or not - than any number of dull, bromidic and characterless DRS/Pirelli induced passes.

I'm no fan of Monaco, but it does have it's place on the calendar, personally I find it dull and processional. I do agree with spanky about DRS overtakes, obviously, I remember the epic battles of the early nineties, Hill and Schumacher, when there was less reliance on aero allowing cars to follow each other closely, less powerful brakes to reward late brakers.

@Spanky ^ Exactly!

Good point. I seem to remember DC stuck behind an Arrows for ages one year... 2001? :scratchchin:

78 lap parade, where even if you are the best driver in the world, capable of overtaking, you just follow the front car, with no room on the track to attack with a different racing line... How exciting to watch..., It is like boxing with your hands tied.
Singapore is much better than this borefest, at least it is special cause it's night. If it wasn't for the glamour, prestige, public relations, image marketing and a bunch of super rich guys who like watching from their boats or the ridiculous priced tunnel hotel it wouldn't be on the calendar.
There are unnumbered jobs in the world that take ''zero margin for error'', I fail to see the excitement on that, in a 78 laps parade
The only good thing about this race is that you can watch it as an alternative cure to insomnia.

You've never seen an overtake in Monaco? I've seen some pretty dammed white knuckle ones.
