Well he may very well have trouble identifying the distiguishing features of two types of holes so as to tell them apart.

Nothing worse than when you get holes mixed up

That explains why sometimes sh!t comes out of your mouth. :hehe: off topic, so let's get this aligned...

Spanky, WTF is the difference between a "hole" and a "slit" ????

Some bloke on the BBC Forum explained the issue. Most teams have an opening that is open to one side, the side towards the edge of the floor like this: C. So the edge of the floor is still contiguous and the 'hole' is not considered a hole. RB closed that so it looks like this: O. A 'true' hole. Whether it's a slit or round hole doesn't matter, it's the opening up to the edge of the floor that makes the difference.

I read your explanation this morning and it didn't sink in. Now after some Vietnamese food and half a bottle of wine, I get it.

Love pho, was it Vietnamese snake and scorpion wine?

Back OT, I read the slit Ferrari uses is barely thin enough to fit a piece of paper through.

From the pic you posted it looks like they had a hole to start with and then cut through to it with a hacksaw.

Hacking it with a hacksaw to make it legal

No they haven't been running with an illegal car for the past three races.

They were running with a legal car, then the FIA redefined "legal". You can tell that it was legal as it passed scruitineering several times, even though the hole was completely obvious and would have been seen by the scruitineers.

The FIA does this all the time, by being incredibly inconsistent about judgements concerning legal grey areas. This means that the teams have to push the envelope or risk getting left behind by teams that push into and beyond grey areas but get passed by the FIA. This gives the FIA the option any time they want to to "clarify" the rules and change the balance between teams as they want.

It's not as bad as in Mosley's day, but it's still far from a clear playing field.

It's illegal now because Ferrari says it's illegal, how can't you see it?!?!?!
Remember Silverstone last year, they changed the rules during the weekend, same purpose...

I did notice at the end of Monte Carlo, when that pitlane reporter rounded up Martin Whitmarsh who had just come out of the FIA's offices, asking if McLaren had also protested about the Red Bull floors, a very annoyed looking Martin Whitmarsh eluded to Ferrari flying the flag in the protest.
