For the life of me, I cannot understand why Red Bull would deliberately toy with Webber's car to make him slower.

The best answer is usually the most obvious. They ain't making Webber slower, he himself is slower than Vettel. Simple as that. 'Nuff said.

Seems obvious to me as well. But hey what would F1 be without a good conspiracy.

Anyway now that Massa is staying at Ferrari for 2012 the whole driver marker is surely frozen up for 2012. Mark needs Red Bull and Red Bull need Mark.

It would be better for all concerned though if he can get closer to and run Vettel harder than he has managed in the first half of this season.

Mark was very very very close to Vettel last year. So what do you think happened?
a) Mark got lots worse
b) Vettel got lots faster
c) Mark didnt adapt to the tyres
d) They mapped Mark's engine just a teeny bit slower (fast enough to score points but not to challenge)
e)Mark likes pissing of Horner
f)Mark's extremely unlucky (yes, I know he is..but i mean REALLY unlucky)
g) any other ideas?

a) no
b) yes - last years success will be a huge confidence boost
c) no
d) hell no, that's just plain ol' daft!!
e) probably but I doubt any driver would go slow on purpose
f) no
g) yes - Webber has never set the track alight. Brief flashes of speed then back to doing nothing exciting all through his F1 career.

I agree with a and b.
But he DEF didnt adapt to the tyres, so disagree on c (or is that what you were saying  )
d) mmmmmm. It would appear daft but dafter things have happened in F1. Jury's out on that one.
e) Nah not going slow on purpose ....but loves pissing off people that do the dirty on him
f) HE SO IS UNLUCKY!!!!!
g) he's had more than flashes. See f for reasons why its not translated.

It would be of no benefit to a team to knobble one of their drivers and risk loosing the constructors. Red Bull may need their no. 2 driver as a rear gunner or to take points away from the competition should Vettel have a low scoring race or a DNF.

As for the tyres, they have all had plenty of time to get used to them. I don't buy that excuse at this stage of the season.

I'm guessing Webber wants to stay in F1 for as long as possible. Pissing off Horner by going slow is going to land him in the dole que PDQ. Besides, if Vettel fails to finish or lets Webber past he could get a win so I don't think going slow is an option.

Could be that Vettel is just a better driver than Webber.

Yes I think he is, but not that much so. I think more needs explaining. I dont really think Webbers going slow on purpose :P ...but I do think he likes pissing off people who dont treat him fair...and hes a canny operator! Tyres.....I dont think its as simple as having time to get used to them, I think it's to do with driving style.

b) not lots, but a bit, which is all it took
c) likely yes, but mark had a bad start to last season too and he didn't crank things up til the european tracks came along
d) nah, but they might not care as much about his KERS lol
e) he likes pissing everyone off
f) yes! too bad vettel wasn't born a few years later :hehe: then mark would be 2010 WDC!
g) probably, just none at the moment

e) how ? he's a good lad!

Except when he is told to hold the gap.

Or he has his front wing switched

There was hee-haw difference between the wings. I laughed when I heard that after the race after Webber shooting his mouth off.

But there was also hee-haw difference between pole and second place! About the same hee-haw as the wing.
