This season I am more excited than the previous one, F1 has got better, yet I do wish we could have the aesthetically pleasing F1 cars from 2008, but then again we can't have it all :-(

Seriously dude, those cars were hideous. The new ones look much better.

:nono:

I rarely say this, but your opinion is objectively wrong

If Vettel wins, we're all screwed.

Speak for yourself :hehe:
SV for the win!

You think? You're not worried about things getting boring if he wins like very race?

Nah, I had a grand time during MS's 5 Ferrari titles

JB to win, Hammy second & Schumi 3rd.

aesthetically pleasing? I found them to be overworked and ostentatiouss

Being that I really only got back into F1 in 2009 can someone please explain what reguation allowed or forced the 2008 cars to look like they were about to beam up?

To put it short, there was no regulation. the car could be built according to the dimension of a 'box', meaning as long as the car fit into this particular dimension the teams could do what the hell they wanted with it, in terms of aerodynamics.

Then, the FIA found the cars looking a bit too fashionable and made a new regulation stating there shouldn't be additional bits attached to the car monocoque.

Personally, I didn't have an issue with those cars. They looked cool, except for the 'twin towers' on the nose of BMW which they implemented for France GP. That crossed the line for me.

haa, what a silly reason to change a regulation. Honestly, aside of my personal opinion of them I don't see why "too fashionable" would be a problem....if anything it would attract new fans, yes/no?!

ps
thx for reply

I was being sarcastic. They thought it was 'ugly' or not pleasing to the eye. Its still a stupid reason, but there you go.

He was being facetious. They changed the rules in an effort to promote overtaking. The multitude of winglets etc. on the cars was causing a lot of dirty, turbulent air which made it more difficult for pursuing cars to get close enough to launch an overtake. The fact they were considered ugly was just a side-note.

Rather the opposite. The FIA clearly stated that the extra bits were 'dangerous' and actually used the turbulent air theory to support their claim. In actual fact, it was due to aesthetics. It's an issue which is a bit 'under the carpet' kinda thing.

Are the f-ducts still in play this season? Have the other guys sorted it out since after the advatage McLaren had last season?

I'm curiuos to see how the longer straights in Sepang will play to the cars up front - if McLaren will have an advantage, or if RB (especially Seb) is going to cotinue their amazing performance from the first race.

F-ducts have been banned and are no longer a factor. In Melbourne, the Mercs were quickest through the speed traps so i'd say they might potentially have an advantage in that department... but all the quick corners are pure Red Bull territory.

k that makes sense...thx!

you guys have to be easy on me with the f1 sarcasm , I'm new :D

this is just getting weird, lol.

anyway I'm all for changes as long as they have a strong footing on making the sport more competitive, and if possible more entertaining to watch. But later years have really made a difference in appreciating the sport because of such great coverage. The P1,P2,P3 ,Quali sessions, pre-show, the multiples of cameras all over the place and a comprehencive graphic display of race-relevant information is something we shouldn't take as a given. This was extremely contrasted by a recent review of the 1990 season and how TV coverage was back then.... I tell you, enjoying the sport in the way we are able to enjoy todays really puts things in perspective.

Cheers mate.

Lets see if they can claw Seb back abit or if he's just gonna continue bolting up front. I also can't wait to see what the outcome for Webber is after stripping the car down and how it works out in Malaysia.
