Poll on F1.com

Image

We have been told by the Tifosi many a time that social media polls etc tend to distort things. For example every Tifosi always votes for Ferrari, no matter what the poll is about. And Ferrari have the most followers therefore ....

Any poll that has almost a quarter voting for Renault engines to win at this stage can only be on a site that has a vested interest in the ublic thinking everything is normal in F1 :hehe:

The tifosi would vote for Ferrari even if the poll question was what's the most silver car on the grid. :hehe:

I took a little time today to go back over some of the images from Jerez. I noticed a few small things that I don't think have been brought up previously.

I've looked at the F14-T, W05, MP4-29 and FW36. Below are the images that relate to my thoughts. My first observation is that all bar Ferrari ran what I would call full aero packages, they had complex detailed multi-elemented front wings. Also, all bar Ferrari ran monkey seats, again some quite complex (and reflecting the very successful Lotus style from last year). Compared the last year, with the loss of so much downforce at the rear, the monkey seat is an important element. Ferrari ran the same extremely simple minimalist front wing - clearly not what they will race with. From all that, it seems to me that Ferrari has a lot more downforce to add to their car. That is good news for the Tifosi IMO as the car already seemed to have good downforce.

The other thing I noticed was how all teams, except Ferrari, either started with cooling vents on top of the pods, or, added them during the practice. Noticeably Merc added these in the afternoon of the last day when Lewis got some additional running.

It was clear that Ferrari's front wing was not this year's product. And various teams did run the monkey seat with McLaren's effort being very sophisticated. All that being said there's just as much an argument to be made that Ferrari may be lagging in the development of their aero package and simply weren't ready by the Jerez test.

We know all this means squat until the Saturday in Melbourne and even then until the first handful of races are out of the way

Saturday at Melbourne can't come too soon.

I'm predicting ferrari not winning this year. Highly likely.

I know you wont answer any of these questions and just say that whatever Ferrari do is fine and you must stick up for them

There really is no point discussing much since NEITHER of us is going to budge from their perspective.
The one thing that would be greatly appreciated would be for you to lose the mockery. It's getting old!

(((p.s. I have a sneaking suspicion that you could argue my own perspective better than I do, if you were of a mind to do that!! )))

isn't it worrying that it was so cold at Jerez and team have had to add extra cooling. Lets see what happens when we they get to Barhain and it is warm

Merc didnt need extra cooling when Nico did his full race sim. Spanks pictures suggest they were added in the afternoon when Lewis did is stint.
The only facts we have so far is that Merc have a car that can complete a race without a single issue. No one else has shown this so far. And they will have to in Bharain which is much hotter.
We already know Mercs race sim wasnt done with all the cooling options available.

Non of the other teams know yet if their cars will complete a 2014 race without over heating. (RBR dont know yet if they can complete a lap with a 2014 legal car)

I can't wait for the day when spanks actually finds Ferrari at a disadvantage compared to its opposition. :hehe:

Correct, when Nico did his run it was wet and raining adding a lot of natural cooling. It was just a difference I felt was worth noting.

You don't have to look too far mate. I posted in my summary of Jerez testing that I felt Mercedes were in the lead in the important category.

Perhaps I'm still nervous waiting for Mercedes to turn on their 20% more powerful engine :-)

Do you think Ferrari were sandbagging by not doing a full race sim? You mentioned that they hadnt put their full aero package on yet, do you think they might try a full race sim first?

It certainly appears to be 20% more reliable.

Reliable? Hmmm... now where did I hear about reliability?

Oh, yes, I remember:
