This might create a baby boom if they delaminate in Pirelli style

He really should have after 3 left rears exploded showering others with metal laced debris. I expected more explosions, and the bravery shown by Lewis in coming through the field after his blowout, knowing there had been another couple......

Maybe the future is for all drivers to do a Button. 'I was overtaken by Williams and Torro Rossos because i couldnt get heat into the tyres = I was too scared to drive any faster because my teammates tyres exploded'

Did you see when Alonso was behind Perez and Hamilton was behind Button...that's when Perez' tyre exploded and Button just lifted on the straight letting Lewis through! Alonso and Hamilton kept their foot down through it, simply indicating who the hard racers are from the p**sy.

A good article here on the state of the tyres and how we've arrived at this situation

The challenge for the P "Zero" clowns now is to pick a representative chassis (has to be 2012, 2013) to test with. WHO?

I think the best bet is McLaren. A team completely lost, and use Button as their driver (he's a race driver, and in terms of feedback can't do nuts anyway he'll probaly return to the pits saying "the grip was not as expected") as he's the best bet. The only team which might be upset about this is Force India since they have to keep looking back at McLaren, but hey, we can't please everyone. The important thing is to not influence the front end of the grid.

Just watching the race, during the safety car period after Vergne's tyre went there's a shot of Newey looking at a photo of a tyre with quite a bit of damage and he'd written keep off kerbs pressure up 2 PSI and DC thought it was Vettels but after the race Vettel claimed there was only some 'bruising' to his tyres but nothing too bad. Is this an attempt to stop any changes being made to the tyres?

I'm not sure what BBC reported, but Sky said that those were Pirelli's recommendations - not anything the team or Newey initiated.

So it seems that the YDT is now open to RACE drivers now and the test is now 3 days.

Mercedes were banned from the YDT....and now that the characteristics of the test has been changed (no actual 'young driver' will be testing, and it's an additional day now), they are still banned. What gives?

Yeah, i was wondering if DC was getting mixed up but it looked like newey had just written that and i think something was said on vettels radio about the tyres that had just been taken off his car. Later on, on the stage button said they couldn't critisise the tyres in the tv interviews too much so it might've been from that that vettel was playing it down a bit.

Over on ESPNF1 FIA rips up its own rule book the quoted part below is what Mercedes needs to take issue with. They can't change the specification of the rubber mid season and NOT allow Mercedes to test. I'd like to see Merc file a formal protest against it if they're excluded. You can't pass a judgement and then change the price of the judgement after the fact. A the very least Mercedes would have to be given a 1 day private test with the new compounds and the 2013 car to bring things back to what the tribunal ruling was.

That would be like having a court order you to pay $1000 Dollars and then a week later telling you that you have to pay £1000 Pounds.

With no time to test ahead of this weekend's German Grand Prix and the FIA has asked Pirelli for an assurance that there will be no repetition of the tyre problems at the Nurburgring.

To allow the changes the FIA World Motor Sport Council will have to change its own regulations regarding testing and also to allow Pirelli to change the specification of the tyres mid-season without the unanimous agreement of the teams.

What mostly surprises me is that you seem surprised by this :)

Exactly. It's freaking ridiculous and I would be shocked if Mercedes just kept quiet about this. It's like the FIA don't have a basic clue about how regulations and passing down penalties should work.

The Tribunal condemned Mercedes to exile from a YOUNG DRIVERS TEST which was for 2 days. Right now it's turned into a Pirelli/TEAM test with RACE drivers...the YDT is no longer an event, we have a new event taking its place thanks to Pirelli's bullsh*t product marketing in Silverstone. The FIA probably feel slapped in the face by the Tribunal when they were prosecuting and Mercedes made the whole thing look like a mountain of a molehill and this looks very much to me like revenge mixed in with a solution to shut the teams up quickly.
