Ted mentions it in this video: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsp ... 029197.stm Includes Whitmarsh saying it was well I think "Lewis said I'm coming in" (after the initial discussion which the team didn't support his request for a pit stop).
Benson also mentions it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/andrewbenson ... ortly.html .
I don't think he should've pitted, was more out of frustration I think, similar to his calls for new tyres last year as well. But I don't think that's his major issue in this race, or even Heidfeld getting ahead at the start, it was where the pace went after his third stop. Alonso should never have been able to catch him, and Button pulled away easily as well
I think he also ruined a set of Primes in a qualifying or Practice, so he only had two sets for the race. He went P-P-O-O-O. It was the 4th stint where he started losing time - that was on his second set of Options, and BEFORE the 'touch' with Alonso.
Others here have mentioned that the McLaren team thought his last pit (after the touch) was unnecessary and he could have toughed it out til the finish. Don't have a source or quote on that myself.
