All we've got is Hamilton's word, I'm afraid. McLaren usually attempt to deflect the blame away from their drivers, so why should this situation be any different? Whenever McLaren say it was not the driver's fault, I'd immediately be suspicious. The more I think about this, the more I think Ryan is taking the fall for Hamilton.

In that case why would Lewis have openly said one thing to the press and changed his story in such a short time to the stewards? I think you're wrong about this. I stand to be corrected of course but I really think you're wrong.

It reads to me like the team said jump and Hamilton said "How high?"

Yes I think so. Naive of him but not crime of the century.

I'm pretty sure this guy is taking the fall for Hamilton though David Ryan may have caused most of the problems in the first place.

Indeed. At least the FiA stopped short of affecting any race other than Aus.

Your absolutely right imo. Ryan is more expendable than Hamilton i guess. If you watch the footage of that press conference on BBC iPlayer, Hamilton seems to be torn about the whole thing, as if he knows he was a fault and wants to apologise and not sit there and say it was all someone else's fault.it makes more sense for McLaren to provide a scapegoat like Ryan

He was told what to say by his Team manager immediately b4 seeing the stewards, he obviously felt uncomfortable but had to toe the party line. If he'd just said what really happened then we wouldn't be ripping the lad to pieces on numerous threads. This is fast descending into a farce. McLaren were wrong and have paid the ultimate penalty, stripped of their points and their integrity called into question. Its time for closure by the FIA and move on, otherwise the sport will lose all credibility. Its also time on here to put it all to bed.

Big enough to seriously damage him in the public eye. This could not have come at a worse time for Lewis: his countryman, Jenson Button, has an absolutely spectacular car and Hamilton has a shopping trolley. The media had already switched allegiance by the end of qualifying in Australia. Now he has given them something to bash him with. He needs to get his head down and work this season. I fear that any more controversy involving him could cause damage that cannot be repaired, much in the same way that Schumacher's reputation has permanently been tarnished.

Hello? Their integrity has been in question for a while now  Only McLaren lambs still believed in their team being as pure as snow - sure hope this has changed a little by now.

Deception to gain a personal benefit aka fraud is a serious matter and one can't begrudge the FIA wanting to rectify the wrong that they were done by LH/McLaren.
