Just watching the re-runs of the Hamilton/Maldonado crash, on SkyF1.

In the onboard replay from Maldonados car, when he is coming back onto the track, he is almost on full lock to the left, trying to take the corner. But because he rides up on the curb, he just goes straight forward.

This I believe will give the Stewards reason to give Pastor the benefit of the doubt, and will let him off without penalty.

Not surprised, Mal didn't have much grip left, he went wide into a dirty area of the track then tried to quickly come back on.
When you see just how hard he hits Hamilton it doesn't look like something a driver would do intentionally
and I'll say again there was no way Hamilton could avoid the collision.

The question is not if the crash was a deliberate thing by Maldonado. But rather if it is boneheaded enough to be punished further. Still, he had a great Q and good race until the crash. So did Hamilton, Vettel and Grosjean... lots of good drives. Finally its good to see good drives being in the position to get results.

Its nice to see Kimi and Alonso on the podium though :clap:
hey it was almost a repeat podium !!

Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi and Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne have both been handed grid penalties for the forthcoming British round after causing collisions in Valencia on Sunday.

Kobayashi will be demoted five places on the grid, following his collision with the Ferrari of Felipe Massa. Vergne, meanwhile, received a 10-place grid drop and a €25,000 fine after colliding with Heikki Kovalainen's Caterham on Lap 27.

The stewards at the European round have been busy, with investigations into Pastor Maldonado’s collision with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher’s use of DRS under yellow flags understood to still be ongoing.

I think Hamilton could indeed have avoided contact, simply by not turning left into the nose of Maldonado. I don't blame Hamilton but I'm not sure why he did that, he had to know the Williams was right there. It was certainly far enough alongside him, and it was off the track because of Hamilton squeezing it off. Not saying there was anything wrong with that, the squeezing, that is, it's a part of racing. OTOH Maybe Hamilton did not see the Williams there. I do see a distinct last instant jerk to the left. Something you would normally do to define your line, but there was a car in that space. On the other side of the coin, Maldonado looks to the lay eyes of mine to have the way, but he should have let it go and try the next corner for both their sakes. He would have got by Hamilton with a little patience and maybe thinking ahead a bit.
Overall I think it's just a racing incident, albeit one with large consequence.

LOL 20 second penalty for Maldo....way to go stewards. Hamiltons WDC chase dented and the idiot loses 1 point for sheer stupidity.

Why does it always fall on the good guys...

Where is the logic or consistency to say; Bruno Senna gets a drive-through, but Kamui Kobayashi gets a five-grid penalty.

Un-@#$&ing-believable...

Fact is,Lewis did nothing wrong,it's as simple as that, anyway 20 sec penalty for pot faced Maldo which drops him down to 12th.

Can't help thinking if it was Lewis it would be a 5 place grid drop at silverstone but like Lewis said "ill suck it up". Mclaren should be more concerned with another abysmal race from Jenson, after all, webber started 18 and came 4th.

I see Hamilton turning left to go round the corner while a Williams car is wandering off track and should of thought about turning left as well instead of right. Kimi was patient and picked his moment to wander past Hamilton but Pastor being the dipstick he is went all guns blazing against a car he could of cruised past had he just waited another corner or two.

Lewis stuck to the track and stuck to the line it is up to Pastor to be smart and pick his moment. I don't buy into this "Oh Lewis was slower and should pulled over" crap he is there to race not wave Pastor past.

As for Vergne not surprising he got a harsh punishment not sure what he was doing in his incident.

Maldonado didn't seem to have control of the car once he came back over the chicane, it was unfortunate... The Vergne incident was a lot more foolish if you ask me.

the post-race interview was a funny scene, looked like former Ferrari drivers looking enviously at Alonso lol.
The quality of drivers in F1 right now is top notch, best season and most unpredictable i've seen in years, really
great for the sport because last year the top 6 always involved the same 3 teams. Redbull do seem to be
coming on strong right now. Vettel looked in a class of his own for most of the race.

Injen:
I believe I already said Lewis did nothing wrong.

Bladesman:
I believe I already said that Pastor should have waited for a better moment.

Looks like a more appropriate name for this place would be the Lewis Hamilton religion forum.

Maybe its just a "we hate stupid drivers who crash all the time like Pastor usually does" forum.

The consequence is hardly ever the basis of judgement for penalties.....
In the end, it was a bonehead thing to happen, which could have been avoided, but not deliberate. Things that happen when nobody wants to yield. Lewis should have yielded and maldonado should have been more patient.....
