If NK gets a penalty for hitting SV, then why doesn't JB get a penalty for hitting NK?

NK didn't hit Seb, it quite the other way around. And therein lies the shocking action taken by the stewards. :(

Well yes, that was part of what I was pointing out. You can't penalise NK when it wasn't really his fault, when JB gets off scot free when it was JB's fault.

Maybe because Jenson had the decency to admit his error!

FerrariFan is just trying to point out the insanity of this decision. NK wasn't even at fault and got a penalty, while JB was at fault and got nothing. Admitting fault has nothing to do with this, as NK has nothing to admit in the first place.

But surely drivers are punished for doing something dangerous on the track, not for their behaviour afterwards (honorable though Jenson's was) It shouldnt have a bearing on the situation.

Maybe Narain should have a chat with Mark Webber! After Istanbul 2010, the Australian knows all about the dangers of being run into by Seb and getting full blame...

Narain should also be on the lookout for Helmut Marko. Jaime Alguersuari certainly got an earful for driving within close proximity of Seb during practice for Korea last year...:thumbdown:

Btw how awesome was Senna in the race? That's the first time i've seen him properly driving in the wet (ie not in a Hispania), i swear most of his passes were round the outside of the other driver!:hehe:

I am overjoyed to see Senna and Williams do so well :D

What with Pastor Maldonado's speed in Melbourne prior to his accident, it seems the Grove team have a very talented couple of drivers. The same can be said of Force India and Sauber... by golly these young 'uns are darn good at the moment! :)

Really enjoyed the first two races but posters are right about the Karthikeyan penalty. It is not possible for the HRT driver to have caused that collision. The Red Bull is faster in every way than the HRT and the onus is entirely on the driver lapping to protect his own car. To quote Karthikeyan "Some of these guys when they lap you, they take the Mickey out of you," he said. "They come and try to push you out of the way to get back on the racing line." It seems that it was too easy for the FIA to penalise a low ranked team and Vettel comments about cucumbers show him in a very poor light.

My opinion of the NK penalty is that it's the stewards (not necessarily the FIA) telling the "new teams" what their place is. That they're supposed to just dive out of the way of the "real" teams whether or not they're being lapped. And I don't like that.

Amazing Alonso!
---
Started off well, got himself infront of Vettel, safety car, red-flag and an overlong safety car, passes Webber, oh look, the FIA kept the safety car out too long, only a few laps after the full restart, it's intermediates time. Nicely timed call from Ferrari, fast stop, a double stop and problems for Hamilton result in Alonso coming out in front, in second. Sauber held out longer to change tyres, though I think at that point they were still in the "run a contrary strategy , as we lack relative pace" mindset. Perez comes out, Alonso takes him, and flies like a bat out of hell. Builds a very important gap of around 6 seconds, before Sauber press the rocket fuel button, nervous stuff as Perez bore down but Alonso drove as fast as he could without making mistakes. Inters wearing off, no its going to rain apparently, best not stop, but they're really wearing off! Ok, change onto slicks, this is faster. Now your turn Perez, OK we'll lose the advantage if it rains, but we're going to do it anyway, gap returns to Alonso, Perez flies, really good position, a little too good, slips and Alonso takes the race fairly comfortably in the end.

Glad I got that out of my system.

What's the point of having wets, if your going to call a safety car as soon as they're needed, and only pit it when the track's dry enough for intermediates.

Mercedes were horrible to their tyres.

Really strong showing for Williams once again, and maybe more to come from Renault.

The redbulls and McLarens didn't work so well in the drying conditions, but they looked like the top two teams once again.

What impressed me was the maturity and skill of the Ferrari pit wall and other track staff, they really pulled together, made the right calls, kept Alonso informed and had some fine pit-stops.

Grosjean has talent clearly, just needs to try and keep it clean. Quite a common problem for f1 rookies I think.

Wonderfully exciting race at Sepang, and what a surprise result! OMG!

Who would've thought that we'd see a Ferrari and a Sauber taking the top two positions at this event? Fernando Alonso did indeed benefit from the tricky conditions, but he controlled the race comfortably and took a deserved win.

However, I was thrilled to bits to see Sergio Perez and Bruno Senna do so well, and Peter Sauber will be very proud of the team's start to the year. It was good to see Williams take some much needed points after the disappointment of Melbourne, but can you believe it? Points elude Pastor Maldonado YET AGAIN with only a few moments left of the race!

The young drivers of today seem to be on top form, and Vergne collecting some good points is also good to see.

Romain Grosjean needs to watch it with his early-race coming togethers, because he's costing himself many points, which is sad, when you consider his form in qualifying.

Mercedes? Two races and only 1 point? Oh dear.

As good a summation as you'll get.

And did you get a look at all those empty seats in the (huge) grandstands?

Pretty standard for the Asian races. Exceptions include Japan, a country which is quite garlanded in terms of a motorsport heritage, and also Singapore, with its great location.

I am still not convinced that SV hit NK..

Let's back off a little here (myself included), I am going to be neutral about it in this post.

But here are my thoughts: The FIA (aka Charlie Whiting) has more camera angles and resources in race control that we will EVER get. He has telemetry data, video data, and radio messages..etc..etc.. that help him arrive to his judgement. All of you give the thumbs down to the NK penalty for the NK & SV accident (notice I didn't say NK hit SV or SV hit NK?), but do you have any of the resources that Charlie Whiting has access to? In any case, I am looking forward to more video between NK and SV regarding the incident.

Charlie Whiting does loads of errors, even if he has camera angles. But Charlie Whiting doesnt make stewarding decisions does he?
