Does any one give Hamilton a chance for points? He's in a tough spot starting from the back. I think he's gonna have some fun making his way through the field. The world will see how good a driver he really is. What a qualifying session. It's like the whole F1 world has been turned upside down. It's gonna be a show.

If he doesn't dnf, I predict around 12th for him. If there happens to be a lot of attrition (which is entirely possible in Melbourne, plus it's the first race), then he might get to 9th, and with a bit of luck even a point.

Well I reckon lewis has two options here:-
1. Put the softs on to start the race, pick up as many places as you can in the first lap then aim for a points finish (Norbert hinted at this when he said we are going for damage limitation)Also reliability will be an issue for all the cars.
2. Forget the race and use it as testing time. (not an easy option for a driver like Lewis)

Great points guys. As history has shown, a DNF or a no points result won't be an absolute disaster for Hamilton. I hope they get some testing data from the race. MM better get that MP4-24 working by Malaysia. I'm here in NYC and I don't think I could sleep if I wanted to. Coverage on Speed starts a 1:30AM local time. Enjoy!

The problem, there, will be the rate at which the softs go off. He'd have to run very short stints to benefit.

That's why he's fueled light.

Is he? Well he has no other option. Gain as much as you can till the softs go off then tank up, put the hards on and sit it out

Hi there :wavey: I was delighted last season when Lewis Hamilton won the WDC but a repeat of last year's Australian GP victory looks very unlikely. The McLaren so far hasn't performed as well as the other cars and although he has shown flashes of speed with the car the best we can hope for is probably halfway up the field.

On the other hand Jenson Button has done very well with the Brawn F1 car as has Rubens Barrichello and they should both do well in the race later on. The only doubt for me is that Jenson has only ever won one Formula One race and all those years driving the Honda milkfloat might have had an effect. If he does win the race then nobody will be cheering louder than me.

My prediction is:

1. Rubens Barrichello
2. Nico Rosberg
3. Kimi Raikkonen

This looks to be the most open race for a long time so may the best man wins whoever that is. :)

Yes - his car weighed in at 655kg. The only person lighter than that was Robert Kubica at 650kg and he should pit around lap 15. The Brawns, meanwhile, weigh in at 664.5kg for Button and 666.5kg for Barrichello. They're running 20 and 21 laps respectively (22 and 23 before the lap to take up grid positions and then the formation lap). The heaviest car is Heidfeld's BMW Sauber at 691.5kg, followed closely by Kovalainen's McLaren at 690.6kg. With the Toyotas moving to the back of the grid, Heidfeld is in a pretty good position to make use of all that fuel.

Edit: I missed Massa. He's actually slightly lighter than Hamilton at 654kg.

And NP is a bit heavier than NH, but who cares about NP, right?:P

>.<

I've been up for 44 hours straight and am still somewhat hungover - the numbers are a little blurry :hehe:

44 hrs, not bad - it gets a bit like being buzzed from a nice BC bud after that long, isn't it?

FOTA - crumbling from within.

I wouldn't go that far, the teams while united under Fota are still competing against each other.

And as for STR not being questioned, they have a different rear wing to RBR

I would disagree, if there is a nasty after taste from these diffuser appeal hearing, there is going to be alot of mistrust again between the teams.
As much as FOTA will remain a body, I doubt its power can ever be as effective as before.
