It was clear to all drivers that the SC was out rc. The question is why did Lewis need that 6 second gap...was it a misunderstanding? Or a mistake from his race engineer? After the race he did say he opened the gap up due to the request from his team. But I think he overdid it and made it a 10 second gap. But the question is why the 6 seconds.

I heard something about the Mercedes being asked to drive to certain numbers just before that safety car. I thought they said .5 for Rosberg and .6 for Hamilton, but I didn't know what they meant. Toto Wolf said Lewis wasn't asked to pull a gap before that stop. Mercedes have successfully double stacked before, so it's a bit confusing.

It certainly cost them the chance to have both cars on the podium.

It also guaranteed that Rosberg would keep his lead.

He would have kept it anyway if they'd stacked the cars.

I would guess they wanted the 6 sec gap so Lewis drove right into the box as Rosberg pulled out, meaning Hamilton was not sitting for any amount of time, overheating etc.... ?

But either way, hats off to Hamilton for admitting he screwed up.

The fashionable thing to do would have been to blame Mercedes.

He usually does put his hand up when he makes an error or is off the pace

That was in reaction to what Red Bull was doing: they called their drivers in to get a jump on the leading Mercedes cars that were trundling around. So, Mercedes asked their drivers to speed up a bit as to not fall behind the Red Bulls after their pit stops, hence the call for -0.5 and -0.6 meaning speed up lap time by 0.5 and 0.6 sec, respectively.

Oh I see. Yes that would make sense.

Sebastian Vettel has no right to complain, says Lewis Hamilton

Vettel described race-winner Nico Rosberg and teammate Hamilton as like "two buses going for a cruise" over the first few laps as they preserved their tyres in the opening stages, backing up the pack.
After starting from the front row, but given their tyre woes during grands prix this season, it was a tactic that worked for Mercedes.
In response to Vettel's dig, Hamilton said: "He has had the fastest car for the last four years, so it's easy for him to say that. He's got it easy.
"We are making our way up, we are learning, growing, improving with a car that has great potential, so I don't agree with him."
