How many times a day do you take your kettle for a walk?

I have a silly amount of Ethernet cables laying about, of varying lengths and colours... I have red, yellow, blue and black in my office cupboard, from six feet upto 50ft... not to mention the various figure of eight and kettle leads, SATA cable, PSU's, never throw anything away, you never know when you'll need it, I even have a defunct motherboard, CPU and 4GB DDR1600!

I have a spool of 500 feet of Cat V cable that I usually make my own cables from. Problem is, Wi-Fi has really killed the need for Ethernet for the most part.

My place has quality wireless connectivity and decent wired connectivity throughout the house, the Wi-Fi range is massive and we can use the internet at the end if the garden (we have a very large garden)

I'm actually out of Ethernet cables, used my last 4 up 2 days ago, blue, yellow and white mine are. You should see the cable talktalk sent me it's an ultra thin Ethernet cable never seen one like it before.

In the garage there are about 15 kettle leads and about 15 usb (b) cables

You could plait all those coloured cables and make things to decorate the house ....or modern jewellery. A lot of modern jewellery is made from plastic junk.

I actually saw a flat cat6e cable in Walmart yesterday but I am not willing to pay $28 for a 6ft patch cable; I don't care how thin it is!

My Wi-Fi network gets close to that; it's capable to 900Mbps (2.4 & 5Ghz) if we had the right W-Fi cards in our computers, media boxes, unfortunately we do not... but 150Mbps seems to work fine for streaming HDmedia around the house! With the new AC standard, that is capable of upto 1.7Gbps, but hardly no commercially available technology uses the standard at this time, but give it a year!

really?

well hannahs laptop manages 150mbps and cannot stream a blu ray mkv (full quality). I used to use a home plug for internet and 1gbps ethernet cables for server to various PCs, i was quite impressed. i could steam 2 HD MKVs simulataneously from the single server (single drive, same file) without stutter.

apparently the laptop is wireless N 300mbps and the router is too, but not a chance that HD MKVs will stream.

the gigabit connection actually achieves 100-120MegaBytesps on large single file transfers too, useful for transfering large files and C: backups

its a HP microserver with 12TB of storage that we run, its one of the better purchases i have made

also i notice latency is much much better through a wired connection (noticeably quicker) here for just browsing

I've never tried streaming a mkv as I don't have any; but 4GB+ mpeg, avi and 1:1 copies of 8.4GB DVD ISO's stream absolutely flawlessly over the wifi network, I also have a WD router that is designed for media streaming, it even has a built in DNLA server, so I don't need to have a computer on to stream to my media devices. The only things directly wired via gigabit Cat5e is my office PC and Oficejet Pro printer!

Oh, so there is no confusion, these are 1:1 copies of DVD's I own; copied for convenience!
