I don't think thos guys start out bad, but dealing with the dregs of society will effect their outlook and the use of violence and revenge becomes the norm. Which results in things like the video's.

I don't really care how good or bad they were when they started out. What matters is how they behave now. You had a terrible childhood and were abused? Ah, that explains why you rape-murdered those girls - we'll give you a pass on this one, but don't do it again, ok?

There are ALOT of good cops out there but the few bad ones tarnish the entire community in the publics eye, that is the true crime  . One thing I have learned is that the haters are the first ones to dial 911  .

Anywho thanks for the support DD (that is how I'm gonna take it, in a positive manner  ).

I just wish you walk into this with eyes wide open - there are plenty of bad apples and corruption reigns supreme. Just remember, in many countries it's the norm that cops are on the take or do worse.

My eyes are wide open as I would not have gone through what I have to achieve my goal. Corruption may reign in some peoples eyes but not mine and I choose to take the higher ground approach ie I believe there is more good in society than bad. My cup is/was and will always be half full and not half empty. Looking for the bad aspects in someone or something is the easy part but it takes a bigger person to see through all that BS and to look for something positive and to help portray that outlook.

Nothing you or anyone else can say will deter me or my outlook, still PO'd about that ticket I see :hehe: .

Not my business to deter you. And no, didn't even think about that ticket, but now that you mention it...case in point

Thanks mate :) . It is really starting to sink in now that I'm only 8 weeks away from graduating and hopefully my initial application will go well with the dept I am applying with next week. Thanks for all the kind words and support.

tex

Thats awesome tex, hope you do well. I vowed into the US Army last friday and I ship out for basic training on June 1st, so I can't wait to leave.

Thats awesome man and I'm certain you will learn to love it :D and they will pay for your education aswell  . If you decide on a career in law enforcement after, unless your career up, your a shoe in yet if you career up you will be able to retire at an age most people can only dream about.

I just returned home from the ASP Baton class and man am I sore and my chest will be black and blue tomorrow!! Talk about a great workout and we also learned some very persuasive self-defense techniques. All the mechanics or arrest and wrist/arm locks we have learned along with the baton are non-lethal defense techniques because the final tech is deadly force ie our firearms.

Riv I'm proud of you man you are doing something that I as a future police officer can truelly understand and appreciate :drink: , stay safe above all.

tex

Thanks for the kind words tex. I thought about Law enforcement too, but I don't think its really for me. My uncle tried to convince me to go the law enforcement route (he used to be a detective and his son is a deputy down in LA), but I went the military route instead because they pay for your college as you said and I just felt that having military experience would be a good thing to have under my belt.

Thats so cool what you're learning though, it makes me anxious to leave for Basic training already. I can't wait to learn everything at my training. My MOS is Fire Support Specialist (aka Artillery Observer), but I'm really looking forward to Airborne school. :D

well done mate. I have a lot of respect for people like Tex and yourself who are willing to put your life on the line for the greater good. There is not many of us around. I have been in the British armed forces for 13 years and I still love it every day.

Thanks Jabberwocky. Dang man 13 years in the armed services thats really admirable. I signed for 4 years active duty so it should be a great experience. I don't know if its the same in the UK, but over here you can retire after 20 active years in the military. Is that what you're planning on going for?

I have a friend who's a police officer. She's very beautiful and a really nice person too. She often does city centre patrols late at night. She's obviously been taught how to defend herself and how to arrest but generally she can defuse situations without having to resort to violence. She's witessed time and again when some of the guys go in to deal with things the violence escalates, its almost like they welcome the opportunity to flex their muscles, get an arrest.I realise this wont apply to all male police officers and that some woman police officers may not deal with things like my friend. But I do think common sense is not always used and violence resotrted to too quickly.

Be a nice policeman Tex :)

It is a well known fact that women police officers can defuse a potentially violent situation just by their presence and demeanor compared to males. Yes you are correct about males and thats just our nature yet it is no excuse. I hear all to often, such as just yesterday, that there are officers with no common sense and they really should not be officers.

Really I think it comes down to ones personality and what type of person they are and their personal morals as to how situations are handled. Yet then again we are leaving out the suspects demeanor which is the root of the situation. This is one thing I learned first hand when I did my ride-alongs. I have been told for many many years that I have the personality of a police officer due to my beliefs of right and wrong yet my demeanor was very positive and non-confrontational.

I'll be a very nice officer but will know when to "push back" so to speak so I can keep control the situation, that is very very important  . Thanks for the support :) .

almost the same it is 22 years, and then retirement on full pension. my old WO left after 36 years!

In my first 4 years I did a tour in Cyprus, that was an eye opener lol

I was not saying it was acceptable, just that, that is how I would imagine the mental make up behind the event.
