Let's hope so!!
Like Cookie said, if he does it against adversity it will be all the more impressive. :)

As Nico did in Canada

No. Nico didn't have a DNF, he left the track and accelerated to gain an advantage and he pushed his team mate of the track. He escaped punishment And came out of it with a huge clutch of points over his main competitor. What's adverse about that?

coming 2nd in the race whilst almost 200bhp down on everyone else sound like doing rather well in adverse conditions

Did you take into account that his only adversary in this WDC is his teammate, who's car had failed the 2nd time this season? Even if he came 4th or 5th it would be considered lucky, let alone 2nd.

I'm gonna stay out of this one

j/k I can't help myself. Even if lewis is rosberg's only title threat, it was still adverse to drive a car that was 160bhp down from everybody else in the field. Perez also faced similarly adverse conditions, although not quite to the extent of rosberg's as it was mainly just the rear brakes, and I haven't heard anybody say his was just luck. Him crashing out in spectacular fashion is another story  That's my $0.02!!

The most respected adversity in racing is a competitor. Driving a car to the finish with 5th gear missing, or with one hand or with one eye closed are all admnirable and impressive but its the racing against a peer that earns the real rep.

Like someone famous said 'dont tell me what you won son, tell me who you beat'

That's true. I must say though, senna's drive in brazil missing a few gears has been considered quite sensational by many over the years!

Thats expected from a great driver. A great driver is great because he is very fast and can drive any car in any condition at its limit.

A competent or journeyman driver can drive a great car great, but is not a rainmaker, making a duck dance round a track like Senna in the Toleman and Lewis in the donkey kong edition of MP4s or Alonso at pretty much most of his Ferrari career

A great driver can do things with a car almost every other driver cant

Bac to Nico and Lewis, Nico is brilliant but he is just not as great as Lewis, if he was he would have been the one snapped up by Ron dennis, he would be the one with at least a WDC, he would be the one who beat Lewis in the lower series, he would be the one in front according to the statistic that tells real fans of racing whats what - the head to head when each car has finished

But not lime Lewis in Bahrain. Fresh option tires, DRS, and still couldn't get around.

I had a dream last night, having a chat with Lewis. And Lewis was like "Tell you something, don't spread it around but Toto has had a problem with me since I joined this team and would prefer Nico to win the Championship"

:yikes: I think I need to take a step back from F1....this is too much.

As was Schumacher's drive at Spain in 94 when he spent 2/3 of the race stuck in 5th gear and was only slower than Hill. That was also an incredible drive. Rosbergs drive was decent but if it wasnt for Perez holding the field up for him he could easily have been 4th or 5th as Massa and Vettel were considerably quicker.

For this thread the pertinent question is not if Nicos drive was great but it was anything Lewis could not have done had he not dnf through no fault of his own.

I think most of us would agree that lewis would have gotten the same result or even better. As WB said when the 2 were on track in Bharain, despite using a higher engine mode, having faster and fresher tyres, and drs he couldnt drive beetr than Lewis. And judging by the big mistake he made with Lewis right behind him in Canada (if it was Monaco he would have crashed out) then the only conclusion is that a great drive it might have been but still doenst mean that much on account of the fact that we dont know if anyone else in that car would have come second, the only one we have evidence for being better, Lewis dnfed
