I would agree with that on a race by race basis. I think maldonado has shown that the team built him the car he wants and needs, and he has done great things with. I think you're right in some respects, a more solid driver would be more consistent, and I'm not even talking about the wrecks. From memory, maldonado is either putting the car high up in Q3, or being quite average in Q2. So yes, perhaps a better driver would be consistent in maximizing the set up and tire wear at each and every track to consistently qualify well and finish, which maldonado has only been able to do at some tracks. I don't wanna be the airhead that will defend maldonado to absolutely no end, but I really really hope he gets his act together and locks things down like he has done a few times over the course of the season, because he has glimpses of pure raw speed, and I absolutely love his aggression and attitude, however misguided it is some days. Most days.

If we are playing the what if game, then Grojean would already be WDC in waiting. if only he could finish the 1st few laps

I'm playing the "I wish" game, not the "what if"! Or maybe they're the same thing... :scratchchin:

Do you know, I've come to the conclusion it can't get worse. After the first half of the season, and the street prang, I think Williams will have said to him " look, buck your ideas up. You Mau be bringing money in, but there are plenty more GP2 topdogs waiting to get in, and they won't duck up as much as you "

He will then buck his ideas up, get some ok results, nothing amazing, but enough to keep him in his seat another year.

Cos the alternative is just too funny to think about.

I'm not convinced that Maldonado can change, he claims to be learning from his mistakes, yet he keeps on making the same mistakes over and over. One win and almost a dozen no scores, crashes and smashes don't make a good driver, hopefully Sir Frank will get enough sponsorship next season to not have a pay driver on board, the only thing keeping crashibashi in that seat is the sponsorship he brings with him. I really hope to see Senna and Bottas in race seats next season.

Hope not, they don't have the spare cars they can go jump into anymore. Watch out for Kimi nipping round the outside of the hairpin though.

I think that won't be possible anymore since the resurfacing. But he always goes for that...if it's a dry start it won't provide much of an advantage.

I thought Charlie had clamped down on running wide at the start in recent years ?

The thought did cross my mind, but was the clampdown about running wide? What I know about starts are that swerving across is still allowed.

Indeed. Imagine if such a pile up were to occur once more. Indy '05 grid line-up all over again! :yikes:

NOOOOOOO
Pastor Maldonado wants to stay with Williams beyond the end of this season because he hopes to win the world championship with the team.

Having joined Williams in 2011 - bringing with him a large amount of PDVSA sponsorship from Venezuela - Maldonado delivered the team's first victory in eight years at this season's Spanish Grand Prix. He's failed to deliver on that early-season promise, however, and hasn't scored a point since.

During a press conference in Venezuela, Maldonado said that he definitely wants to stay with Williams next season and is eyeing a title challenge.

"I would, without doubt, stay there a while, a year at least," Maldonado is quoted as saying by AS. "Before leaving Williams I would like to win the championship with them. I would give the opportunity for this great team - that gave me the opportunity for me to get on the F1 grid for the first time - to win a world championship."

Maldonado admitted, however, that a move elsewhere was a possibility.

"In F1 you never know what might happen ... there are enough teams on the grid."

Oh my God. What an arrogant f***. "There is no doubt I WILL leave you for better things, but before I do, I will gift you the World Championship"

Now dont get me wrong, I do think he has talent, and if he calms down and focus' his skills, he could even win a championship - its not unfeasible. BUT he has to remain in F1 for that to happen, and on his current form there is no guarantee that ANYONE will want him next year - the way he is chatting there, he is acting like there are multiple teams knocking on his door to sign him - which I find so hard to believe.
