well he's the spelling police, so they have to have evidence....but you gotta watch these South African police they are potentially corrupt.

Enemy at the gates
Band of brothers- it isn't a movie, but it deserves to be mentioned.
Platoon
300
We were soldiers
Apocalypse now
M*A*S*H
Tora tora tora
Letters from iwo jima
The thin red line
The flag of our fathers
Schindler's List
Saving Private Ryan

You sir, have good taste. The Thin Red Line was such a different movie, but I think it depicts war better than most war movies (including Saving Private Ryan).

I would add these to the list, if you havent seen them I highly recommend them.

Black Hawk Down
Full Metal Jacket (if you liked Platoon, you'd love this)
The Kingdom (2007)

I cant remember other good war movies I've seen, but if I do I'll give a shout. I've heard that The Hurt Locker is pretty good but I havent seen it.

Hey dude!

I watched the movies this weekend!
I really enjoyed your indications!
As for The kingdom, I liked the movie.

But FMJ, damn that really is good entertainment!
Great movie!
The pinch of humour in the movie was what i liked the most.
It fitted perfectly!
very very good!

BAhhh...just because you re-mentioned The thin red line, Sean Penn came to my mind and I see i forgot "Mystic River"
I completly agree that it depicts war better than most of movies.
Of course there are some heroism on the movie, but I like the focus on the emptying of the things that make us human, the morbidness that increases in the soldier, the reality that death imposes on their psychology...

You know, I've never seen Mystic River, but I've heard its really good. I think I'll pick it up next time. You know thats Sean Penn as a stoner in my Avatar. :hehe:
The thing I also like about Thin Red Line is that it shows that you dont always get a good leader when you're in the military, and all some people care about is climbing the ranks.

I know that it's Sean Penn just because I know the dvd cover. =p
As for the leader issue, you can see this in band of brothers too: Norman Dike.
I wonder what his children and grandchildren think when seeing BoB.

Black Hawk Down is really good too! I just forgot to mention
The kingdom - I don't know this movie...
Full Metal Jacket - I've never seen. but I know it's Kubrick's, well... I don't know why i haven't rented this movie yet. going to rent both this weekend.

The Kingdom isnt like the typical on the front line war movie, but its good nevertheless. And you gotta see Full Metal Jacket dude, you'll love it its such a good movie.

War is one of my favourite genre =)
I know I forgot some good movies too(not only in this genre)
I'll update the lists by the time the movies come to my mind..=)

War movies are my favorite too. I think I like it just because of the male bondage.

Here I remembered more good war movies. :)

Dont know if this would be considered a war movie but I absolutely love it.

I like "Glory", but I just think it's weird seeing Mathew Broderick doing movies that aren't comedy. :P
Talkng about Denzel Washington, now I remebered "Remember the Titans" and "Training day"(I really enjoy this one)
As for "Dances with wolves"...I wouldn't say it is a War movie even though there are some war scenes in the begining and in the end of the movie. I think it's drama, whatever...it is such a beautiful movie, some people say it's boring and lenghty. IMO it isn't at all, but there are times that other movies fit better.

Oh and dude, the people who made Band of Brothers are coming out with another mini-series called "The Pacific." Its in WWII and obviously based on the Pacific Theater, and it looks really good. I dont have HBO though so I think Ill have to wait for it to come on dvd. :(

Here's the trailer

It looks great!
When will this be on HBO?

I missed this in my excitement over "The Pacific"....

Glory is a great movie, I particularly like the soundtrack - Final Credits , An Epitaph to War:crying:

Do you want some emotional movie with emotional soundtrack?
Take Cinema Paradiso...one of the most(if not the most) beautiful films I've ever seen.
