If the Red Bulls and Ferraris get sent to the back of the grid, Heidfeld will find himself in a rather handy position with the amount of fuel he's got onboard.

why would they get sent to back of the grid

Well they won't now because Williams have withdrawn the protest about the flexing parts.

Williams withdraws Ferrari, RBR protest

By Jonathan Noble Saturday, March 28th 2009, 13:34 GMT

Williams has withdrawn its protest against the Ferrari and Red Bull Racing teams over a possible technical infringement.

Despite hours of deliberation by the Australian Grand Prix race stewards following Williams' complaints, and media and other officials being forced to remain at work in the paddock until the matter was resolved, the Grove-based outfit chose to call a halt to its complaints shortly before midnight.

Although the team has declined to comment on the situation, it is understood the protest related to the area of the car surrounding the front edge of the sidepods.

The Williams complaint came on the back of Ferrari and Red Bull Racing being two of the teams who protested against its own diffuser design earlier in the weekend.

Prior to the Williams protest being lodged, technical director Sam Michael said that he had no qualms with protests being lodged.

"Let's be 100 percent clear, if someone thinks our car is not legal, we have no problem with them going the stewards at any time throughout the race weekend or the championship and saying we think x on that car is illegal," he explained.

"We sit in front of the stewards and say this is our case, this is theirs and they either declare for us or against us. We fully support that process because they are effectively the policeman and you've got to have that. You can't ever not have that otherwise people can run riot.

"So we don't have any problem with what people have done this weekend. Those three teams now that they've appealed those decisions feel that they have a very strong pace otherwise they wouldn't have done that, because they've been through two processes already and they are continuing with that with the Court of Appeal. I wouldn't say that it frustrates us. We are accepting of that process and we will go through with it."

The decision to withdraw the appeal means that the results of qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix have now been made official - with the only changes from the qualifying times being the exclusion of the two Toyota cars for flexi wings.

I seem to have have the same feeling on results as "Denthúl" Rb to take it.
These first 4 races are going to be a disaster as a Ferrari supporter.

On a side note,I am absolutely loving it even more the situation with Hamilton, his fanboys are stumped and about to jump ship to their next Great British hope ,Brawnn.I am betting by mid season ,rumors about LH going to Brawn next season will be floated by the British media as they'll loose patience with the crappy McClaren, and LH,well he will jump ship now if he could.

I'd like to think the McLaren's will be OK after four or five races, but it's worrying that such a dramatic decline can occur.

It might be that Lewis has to accept the backseat whilst Jense flourishes. It'll be weird to see the coverage shift away from Hamilton, as it probably will.

It'd be nice to see either Jenson or Rubens win tomorrow. Both have gone through two disastrous seasons previous to this, maybe their reward is due.

Jesus, i wasn't expecting the Brawns to have that much fuel onboard! That is very ominous indeed....

Toyota look good to come through the pack tomorrow, and it'll be interesting to see how the McLaren's split strategies play out.

I can't wait! This season is gonna be awesome!:thumbup::thumbup:

Whats the official source for those Weights? [site please]
And are they Only Fuel Weight or Car weight. In which case aren't the KERS cars supposed to be heavier anyways?
Jus wondering about this.

The source is the FIA, i think you can trust the data. It's the same on all sites.

The cars are all 605kg including driver, KERS is included in that. Non KERS teams use ballast to make weight.

As for weights of the car. There's a minium weight rule, or else the cars would probalby be a lot lighter. What happens is that a car may only actually weigh 550kg, with the minium weight for a car without fuel being 605kg. This gives the driver the ability to use a ballast to add more weight to either the front or the rear to get a better balance with the cars set-up. This ballast plus the driver then meets the minium weight.

However this year with KERS, teams are reducing the weight of the car a little as far as I know. Then adding KERS. So the car may weight anything around 580kg. This gives the driver less of a ballast. But the car should still weigh the same (minium of 605kg) with the driver in it. But the driver won't get as good a balance. Worst case senario is probably Kubica who apparently has next nothing in terms of a ballast, because he's so tall and thus heavy.

I've heard rumors that the kers cars can use the kers for a boost off the start any truth in this? if so will be interesting tomorrow. no doubt if they do at least one driver will smash into another car out of pure excitement? :D

Well actually thats the only site i go to for 5 years now.I thought maybe data is from fia.com [or other] officially.

And i disagree with the now popular opinion of this openness is good this season.
There is no openness, there was openenss in schumi era as well, only after podium positions that is.
Good on Brawn for doing gr8 but they better control themselves or there are going to be another series of drastic rule changes to level the field again.Personally this is not good,in the larger scheme of things.

Brawn, Williams and Toyota interpreted the rules in a more creative way than everyone else. From what I can see from the limited information made available to the fans I can see that they have done nothing technically wrong. Let the other teams finish their bitchin, the case is thrown out and everyone scrambles to copy. Drastic rule changes will happen regardless of the performance advantage that Brawn have. Look at what's happening in 2010...
