Yep Nico has certainly provided a stern challenge in quali because Hamilton would normally qualify ahead of Jenson even with a half decent lap. May be Hamilton needs to give a bit more thought to track position during quali because it's two races in the row now that Rosberg has gone out first and set down a marker. SC could've easily been out in qiali without needing Rosberg to park it down the alley way.

I wonder why Nico feels that Mercedes needs to give him a 100% reliable car. Maybe he feels he can't overcome a DNF the way his teammate can?

I think every driver feels they need a 100% reliable car :hehe:

If you surfed over to Image and saw this; but, didn't continue
reading, since you don't have a subscription, here's the same article, free!

, Edd Straw (as posted on Image) wrote:">Why the Rosberg short-cut decision was right

Nico Rosberg's trip across the final chicane in the Canadian Grand Prix was not penalised by stewards. EDD STRAW agrees with the decision, but explains why track limits are an increasing problem in motorsport

p.s. it's fairly lengthy, so I didn't post it in its entirety!

So it's now ok to leave the track and gain an advantage over a competitor.........or does it just depend on who is leaving the track to gain the advantage?

As much as it pains me I'm going to play sagi a bit here, but the severity of the crime appears in direct correlation to the racing position. Kvyat, or someone similar, who gives a funk really, pulled the same stunt but are we up in arms about it? Did the stewards have a different reaction?

I think what overboost is getting at is if Merc find themselves in 2-3 or 3-4 because of Red bull then the points difference (assuming Lewis is ahead) would take Lewis more races to get ahead on points

Tough poop on Hamilton then. If the title is decided in the finer details then it's the things he hasn't got right as much as the fortune of Rosberg that will count. To a degree, bar Australia, Hamilton has put himself in this position; he'd still be 15 points adrift even if he'd won there. Nobody's doubting that he isn't the better, faster driver but as usual his greatest threat is himself.

It think it would be unfair to say that the 1st race DNF was his fault. Have they said what caused the problem in Canada was? Could his more rear brake bias of made the rear brakes slightly hotter and that was the tipping point for them to fail.

I did say bar Australia. I mean he had the pace for pole on both occasions, which would have left him in a better position, put less stress on the car, not chasing in the hot air, not driving to Nico's rhythm, less driving born of frustration, pitting first, letting Nico get the resultant issues that he can learn from. Following he's being dictated to, and has to go outside the comfort zone of fragile things like brakes to get anywhere.

Apart from a few new Nico fans on here implying that Lewis, Nico and the team were fully aware that the ERS-K would fail and cause the brakes to over heat, then there can be no blame attached to Lewis for chasing Nico, driving in 'his hot air', choosing to be stationary at a pitstop, or overtaking him strategically at the pit stop.
If however Lewis knew that his car would lose ERS-K, overheat his brakes and fail then it was entirely his fault for not just limping around the whole race and settle for a point or 2 instead of stupidely and unintelligently go for the 25 points.

The mystery deepens whoever, as the team say this

Wolff, however, rejected the theory that the reliability problems last week in Canada were caused by Hamilton and Rosberg pushing their cars too hard in battle.

"The damage would have occurred even if they had slowed down," he insists.

Wolff told Sport Bild: "We told the drivers how to manage it by changing the brake balance and braking more carefully. Both of them did it exactly to our specifications. That what happened to Lewis did not also happen to Nico was just pure luck."

However as its Hamilton we are dealing with here, its perfectly acceptable to decide that he was at fault and spend a few pages arguing about it.

The rest of that article is also a good read!

At the very beginning, the author reports that Mercedes has yet to get "to the bottom of the technical glitch"; but, which it seems "can basically be traced to the energy recovery systems, which overheated".

Wolff is quoted saying: "In Montreal, we were trying a new cooling system for the first time. The new software went crazy."

I'm sure they'll have the issue resolved before it's lights out in Austria!

Yep, that is what I was trying to say.

Yep, that is what I was trying to say.

Let's see how many times that happens this year.

There's an element of unpredictability creeping into the season so you can never tell. Who would've thought a Suaber would've been a brake caliper away from potentially winning Canada. One thing we know for sure is that the cream will always rise to the top.
