I'm surprised nobody has brought this up yet:

Stoner diagnosed with mild anaemia

By Pablo Elizalde Tuesday, July 14th 2009, 13:28 GMT

Casey Stoner has been diagnosed with a slight gastritis and mild anaemia after the Australian underwent further tests in the United States last week.

Stoner has been affected by the illness since the Catalunya Grand Prix and doctors were yet to discover the reasons for his slump during the races.

After staying in the United States following the Laguna Seca race, the former world champion underwent further tests and was finally given a verdict.

The Australian says he will now follow the doctors' indications to try and make a full recovery.

Ducati said doctors are sure that with the right treatment Stoner will be back to full fitness in a matter of weeks.

"I have been in USA until Saturday to do all the tests," Stoner said. "First of all I'd like to thanks all the doctors involved in this, Dr. Ting and Dr. Tuan in the Fremont Surgery Center, Dr. Macchiagodena, Dr. Catani, Dr. Ceccarelli and of course my physiotherapist Freddy.

"Hopefully step by step I will feel better with their indications. I still don't feel like I am 100 per cent but the biggest problem now is the ribs that are very painful after the crash in the USA GP qualifying.

"It will be probably another hard weekend, but as always, we will do our best to stay as much as possible close to the lead of the championship".

Team boss Livio Suppo added: "This is a delicate time for Casey but we know he is made of stern stuff. He will continue to fight like a lion, as he has done in the past few races, even though the crash at Laguna left its mark on him and that certainly won't help.

"Nicky again rides at a circuit where he has always gone well at in the past and I'm sure he will be able to confirm that the improvement made at Laguna is only the start!

I'm glad he's finally found out what's wrong with him

OMG, i can't believe that. That is so crazy!! Well i think top 3 is the best the Oz can do atm. If he does even get close to a win that proves a real champion inside the Aussie.

Lorenzo makes upward surge for Free Practice 2 lead
Saturday, 18 July 2009

Spaniard moves from eleventh to first in second MotoGP session;

Languishing in eleventh in Friday afternoon’s practice for the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, Jorge Lorenzo answered back on Saturday with the quickest time of the weekend to date. The Fiat Yamaha rider posted a 1’21.882 time on a dry track to boost his hopes of a strong result in Germany.
Lorenzo was the only rider to breach the 1’22 mark, trailed by previous leader Casey Stoner. Nearly four-tenths of a second separated the duo.
Laguna Seca racewinner Dani Pedrosa made a charge for the top spot in the final moments of the session, but fell short in his latest run with the new Honda engine introduced to his RC212V. He had been unable to get a full assessment of the motor on Friday due to the wet conditions.
Pedrosa eventually placed third, ahead of former teammate Nicky Hayden –now with Ducati Marlboro. Hayden’s confidence has been boosted by a positive result in his home race and a decent showing for most of Friday afternoon.
Down in fifth and half a second down on Fiat Yamaha colleague Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi ran off track when trying to tuck in for a tight turn. He kept his Yamaha M1 vertical, an achievement that Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s James Toseland had been unable to manage earlier on with a high speed lowside. Niccolò Canepa also crashed during the session.

What a QF session.
Rossi man what a lap right after the checkered flag at the end.6 tenth a sec faster ,that was insane.
Turn 8 was monster, some 10 riders went off there. And Hayden was trying to air jack another rider(canepa it was i think) That was brutal.
Elias and de angelis crash, lol like a horse without jockey.
Stoner still 3rd even after sitting out much of the session.Hope he gets fine soon now that he knows whats wrong with him,my mom had mild anaemia as well.makes you really weak.

Yeah, some serious action today. But Rossi was the man. Seriously, Lorenzo, Rossi and Stoner were battling for barely tenths in an attempt to get pole, then bang, 6 tenths. Wicked stuff from Rossi.

But seriously, Moto GP need to give some points for pole position. Since pole positions means very little come race day. I just feel that Rossi should get some reward for that effort today.

And Nicky Hayden, I'm impressed. It's been a brilliant effort by him lately adapting to the Ducati and bringing himself back up the field. So to qualify right behind Stoner was a great result. After many people saying only Stoner could ride the ducati, it's great to see that Hayden has managed to get right behind the Aussy. All credit to him.

Pole in Moto Gp or other bike classes rarely mean anything.
I always feel its a way to avoid silly arguments among riders as to whom will ride where.
Look at Pedrosa, that guy is a maniac on starts, that can't ever happen with 4 wheelers on that consistent a basis.

I was genuinely asking whether they mean nothing, like in F1, like when Rosberg always tops the time sheets.
