Nice

I'd count it as a significant achievement at the workplace for the party concerned.

Today we have decided to hand in our 30 days notice and break the lease where we live as we have been waiting six weeks to get a response from the maintenance people and/or owner about a leak in our bathroom. We have lost faith that things will get fixed; what would happen if we had a real emergency maintenance issue?

So you're looking for new digs? Same area or back to Europe?
Interesting that you got 30 days notice on your lease - usually a lease is a lease and it's for one year (at least that's what I do with my tenants and that's what's customary here) - unless you have a month to month arrangement?

I agree unless there's a 30 day's notice clause he's leveraging due to the bathroom issue not being resolved. Year to year lease, and no way out unless the owner is very very nice about it or can rent it out easily. The lease is there simply to cushion against having the place empty for six months because someone ditched.

Moving to the same area; just somewhere bigger; 950sqft is not big enough for two kids and two adults...

We are breaking the lease; the landlord didn't cover his butt; we can break the lease without penalty other than losing our $300 deposit! We actually don't have to give any notice according to the lease agreement; we could just walk but we are giving the courtesy of 30 days notice.

That is kinda smallish!
Good luck on your house hunting mission then
I'm house hunting again myself - looking for a decent investment property to rent out.

Things must be going well, or are you taking advantage of the economy... things are looking up, in the US and home sale prices are at a 4year high.

Interest rates are at a historic low and real estate prices are still low enough (and negotiable) - now is the time to buy!

That would be swell, we could all get together a couple of times a year in a pub somewhere in NY state. MOA has to move to the east coast... WTF he's doing in Kansas, I don't know.

I blame that socialist Obama. :hehe:

I mean seriously, who'd have thunk it that the US would emerge from his whole economic disaster (that the greedy bankers @holes got us into) in better shape than the EU and certainly the UK?

Sure - but he'd have to move from his country bumpkin redneck Wichita to NY...
