Enthralled fans worldwide watched the action packed Malaysian grand prix yesterday as several top drivers fought their way up through the field from the back of the grid. One such battle included the McLaren of Lewis Hamilton and the Renault of rookie racer Vitaly Petrov, a battle the McLaren eventually won, collecting a warning from the stewards for his trouble.

After making a move on the Renault and taking the place with relative ease as he sliced his way through the field, Lewis Hamilton was taken by surprise when the young rookie took the positon back soon afterwards. Resuming the battle, Hamilton took a little longer to get past again, however when he did so he was determined not to let the Renault back past.

In his determination, Hamilton moved across the track several times, in front of the Renault, in fact to onlookers it was as if the two cars were tethered together. The McLaren would move across and a fraction of a second later, the Renault was right behind him.

The stewards issued a warning saying he was using excessive blocking manoeuvres, making more than the one directional move, however that was the end of it, until after the race that is when Renault boss Eric Boullier, revealed that they had complained during the event and that in his opinion Hamilton definitely did the wrong thing....

"We just raised our point of view. Very frankly, it is very clear in the regulations that you can have one change of direction, so when you do three in a row something is wrong,” he told Autosport. "He got a warning for dangerous driving, but I am not sure it is enough. It is definitely clearly written in the regulations that you cannot do any more than one direction change, and it is something you should not be doing."

tis no different to Jenson last season warming his tyres on the straight. Its in the braking zones where youre only allowed to make one move which Hamilton did in the braking zone. Besides by following Hamilton Petrov was also making more than 3 moves in a row, Renault boss should realise that before whinging.

Doubt that. See, e.g., starts - they're nowhere near the braking zone and are restricted in their moves by the rules.

thing is maybe massa acomplished his finish the "easy" way but it was tactics and it was clever.
i like massa, he seems like a pretty genuine guy, and is still battling hard despite last year. my worry for him is if he gets outshined by alonso. but what i do think about him is that he will do well given half a chance.

Agreed, he is underated and will never be in the likes ok Alonso. But as all of you said the figures are there and get got them points. If the WDC was in hand he would of still won it so he still did good.

What the heck does that mean ??

Hamilton clearly was not blocking, he was trying to break Petrov's draft.

Hillarious. Next time McLaren should mount some James Bond gadgets in his car... oil jets, machine guns, flame throwers... Hey!, just to break any overtaking attemp.

He only made one direction change in the braking zone, I believe that is legal as did martin Brundle.

I'm beginning to believe not think that VB is Alonso's 'under the radar' PR guy simply because he cannot make a post without bringing Alonso into the mix  !

Do you honestly think Hamilton was trying to block him? :bs:

It was the opposite, Hamilton was trying to "shake him off"

Then I'm wonder why don't you see those techniques more often... I'm sure that in China's drivers briefing they are going to ask if they can make that manouver and the answer will be "no".

Even so, if it was a legal manouver, then, why the warning?

Unless the ex-F1 driver steward for the weekend is Mika Hakkinen. :P
